What happens if the defender has a flier in the squad leader spot, and a ground unite in the technician spot?

What happens if the patrol zone has 3 flying units in it and an attacker wants to attack the base?

It depends on what's attacking.

In the first scenario if a flying unit is attacking it has to attack the Squad Leader. If a ground unit is attacking it has to attack the Technician.

In the second scenario if a flying unit is attacking it has to attack the patrol zone. If a ground unit is attacking it can ignore all the patrolers and attack the base. The ground unit would not take any damage from fliers in this case.

Basically, flying units are pretty bad defenders, except against other flying units.

Oh really? I thought the flying units would act like "towers" and deal all of their damage through any attacker that attempted to pass underneath...

No. Anti-air units will do that to fliers, but fliers do not patrol against ground units, pretty much ever. Regular ground units literally run right under them...they can't engage against flying patrollers at all. Anti-air ground units MAY run right under them, or they may attack patrolling fliers at their discretion.

Flying is a double-edged sword in Codex. Awesome offensively, pretty terrible defensively.

Doesn't Starcraft 2 have air units that are weak against ground units? Vikings can't attack unless they land. Phoenixes can only attack ground units if they lift them up, and I don't think Corruptors can attack ground units at all?

Yeah you are correct SOME units cannot attack ground at all. But in this game all of the units can attack ground units if they choose to. So why not act as patrol on defense? Mutalisks/Voidrays are awesome defenders!

I guess it's for gameplay balance... But if feels like air units should act like powerful towers on defense, damaging any units that attempt to damage the base.

Pretty sure it's a balance thing. Flying is already pretty amazing if your opponent isn't ready for it. If, in addition to everything it already does, it ALSO gave you a mega-tower, it'd basically turn off your opponent's ability to attack at all, which would be really oppressive/anti-fun/too good.

Sorry if this specific question about flying has been covered already, but assuming the following:

1. Fliers can fly over ground units in the enemy patrol zone.
2. Ground units with anti-air in the patrol zone can attack fliers that go over them

What happens if a flying attacker attacks the enemy base through an enemy patrol zone with multiple ground unit patrollers with anti-air?

A) Only the ground unit with anti-air in the squad leader position gets to attack the flier
B) All patrolling ground units with anti-air get to attack the flier
C) Flier gets to choose which patroller with anti-air it flies over and only that patroller gets to attack the flier
D) Something completely different

Again, apologies if this specific interaction has already been answered.

EDIT: I just relooked at some of the earlier posts... looks like this particular interaction has been answered. The answer is B
