I own Talisman and Mage Knight. Pretty tired of Talisman and I do like Mage Knight but I am looking for a lighter game.

I have played Runebound 2nd ed and liked it but is there any other games that I have missed? Basically a game that is not coop where you walk around, quest, level up your hero and maybe fight the other players once in a while?

I was looking at Relic since it will be gone forever(?) soon but I dunno.

Should I get Runebound (Third Edition)? We will be playing 2 or 3 players.

...at last I return back to the logical and sane world of wargaming, in order to truly enjoy games again.

While it is not fantasy, I would recommend Merchants & Marauders. It will fill many of the needs you are looking for.

Do you like sci-fi? Firefly: The Game is an awful lot like Runebound in space.

Runebound 3rd ed is a good choice. Another one would be Prophecy.

Some other suggestions would be Above and Below or the upcoming Near and Far.

Bar the "once in a while", you might like Arcadia Quest ?

Love Arcadia Quest and I have backed inferno But I would call AQ more confrontational than "once in a while"

Basically I was thinking of buying Relic since I heard it is a better version of Talisman and it seems like a light fun game for those evenings when you just want to throw some dice (or play with new players).

But Relic with the two expansions is pretty expensive expensive so I started to look at Runebound (Third Edition) since I like the 2nd ed.

So I would probably pick that up at one time but there is no rush since it will stay in print for a while I guess?

Most of the ones suggested in this topic don't fit the bill, IMO.

You could go hardcore and get Magic Realm for the ultimate adventuring experience!

Another vote for Witcher. I find it scratches the same itch as Talisman... and has MUCH more interesting decisions to make.

I haven't played it but maybe check out Shadow of Malice.

It is similar to Mage Knight I believe. Ricky Royal suites an overview of it on his channel I think.

Are you OK with Sci-Fi rather than fantasy?

If so, Xia: Legends of a Drift System is a space sandbox game that might work for you. The box say 3+ players, but many play it with 2, and the upcoming expansion will have official rules for playing with 2.

There's not a lot of leveling up (can upgrade your ship twice) but you can earn points in many ways - harvesting resources, exploring, trading, salvaging, missions, etc. Game length is variable - just set how many points you want to play to at the beginning of the game.
