Do you think Rio Grand will have this available in the States around Essen, or do these things tend to take months crossing over?
This pack should be fairly language independent, I'd imagine, but I'm not sure if that matters much.
Anyhow, I can't wait. I hope he really shakes things up.

It depends on where and when it is manufactured.
a) If printed in Asia in good time before October could it even be in USA before the Spiel fair.
b) If printed in Europe in good time before October could it be released at the same time in both Europe and USA
c) If printed in Europe or Asia just in time for the Spiel fair will it most likely first arrive in USA with the container ship containing all the other new releases of the time, which would mean a 3 months delay.
Based upon the RGG history scenario "c" is the most likely.

If the last expansion (the Central Europe/Benelux board) is indicative, we'll see it a couple of weeks before Christmas.

I hope that's not the case. 'Course, I'm new to the game as it stands so there isn't any rush to add in expansion content. However, I'd love to see if Friese adds anything out of the ordinary to the game (i.e. adds more of a socio-political dynamic to the game or creates new types of plants).
let me rephrase my question then: How long do you think it'll be before information on content is available in english?
My guess would be Essen.

I don't recall anything about the power grid deck that had any words on it (english or otherwise). Isn't it all just symbols and numbers? I shouldn't expect it to matter as long as they dont make the deck much more complicated to the degree it needs words printed on it.

My guess would be Essen. That is a very good guess.
I have seen a mock-up of the new cards, but am not allowed to reveal anything yet.
However, from what I have seen there won't be any major changes or new cards. There will only be changes to the cost of the Power Plants, the number of resources they use and the number of Cities they can provide with power.
However, these changes will ensure that you need to rethink your strategies as the values of the Power Plants will be quite different.

What about those of us on the other side of the pond?
When will we see these in the U.K./Europe?

They will be sold at Spiel '07 in Essen, and from any good European game store that sells games from 2F-spiele immediately after that.
The cards are identical to the original set (with new values) so the Germans set will be just as playable as the US one.

Only difference is the box ;-)
Mik,
lets see if the mockup you have seen was the last evolution. I have been to a Brettspielwelt meeting which Friedemann also attended. One of the tester there had something to comment (especially regarding the 2-player suitability). Directly afterwards Friedemann was counting the types of plants to check;-)

The decks are shipping from Germany next week, and so will arrivein the US
in early November. In fact most of the Essen releases are finishing late this week and early next, so I expect the following in the US in ealry November: Darjeeling, Zooloretto expansions, Hamburgum, Cuba, Race for the Galaxy, Felix, Power Grid deck, Abbey & Mayor, Amyitis, Key Harvest, Chateau Roquefort, and all of these will be available at my booth at Essen. The following will arrive in mid-November - a week later: Ming Dynasty, Manhattan, Year of the Dragon, Mü & Lots MOre, and Bohnanza fan Edition.
