Yes, I'm talking about Trump's tax avoidance and slush fund "charity":

Quote:
Donald Trump’s charitable foundation — which has been sustained for years by donors outside the Trump family — has never obtained the certification that New York requires before charities can solicit money from the public, according to the state attorney general’s office.

Under the laws in New York, where the Donald J. Trump Foundation is based, any charity that solicits more than $25,000 a year from the public must obtain a special kind of registration beforehand. Charities as large as Trump’s must also submit to a rigorous annual audit that asks — among other things — whether the charity spent any money for the personal benefit of its officers.

Wow for someone who hates Trump, you sure seem to post a whole lot about him. I am waiting for your threads to start with "while Trump" in the headline.

I assume there is a level of fear as Hillary did not get much of a post debate bump in the polls.

Anyway, good to see you take a look at disreputable charities.

She won't get a big bump, more likely +2-3 pts, but it's really too soon to know what effect the debate will have.

Trump is going to have promote some more swag to make up for the trail of costs associated with his campaign... so many rotting corpses being exhumed, all with a price tag.

It will be great to see the cost levied by the NY AG in this case, most likely forcing the "charity foundation" to return all the funds from outside sources.

He's pocketing a lot of campaign donor cash though. Currently in excess of $8 million has been funneled into Trump companies.

I'm pretty sure attacking your enemy is always the best policy. Maybe you Iowans roll over like hurt dogs, feigning death... but in politics, you only dance on your opponents grave only after they have been eliminated in every possible way. As Lord Humongous once said..."Nobody, but nobody gets out alive." Pretty sure your OrangeMan will be extinct by the time all is said and done.

I thought that is what real men(tm) did, attack people they do not like.

BTW, the metric in using to gauge that is Sam Wang's meta margin and EV model. The baseline before the debate was +2.1% and 303 EV.

The relevant polls should start coming in today. Let's check back there in a week and see what's what.

I think he thinks it is a really good gotcha.

"Ah so you say "for someone who does not like Trump you sure post a lot about him", Well ha ha gotcha".

I think you are right, he needs to get his brain in gear.

Coming down to the finish line, all the news is going to be negative for Trump. The Republicans wasted all their ammunition already on Hillary. Every bad and/or seemingly bad thing she has ever done has been in the news so much over the last year that it just isn't newsworthy anymore.

Now that the Democrats are finally starting to dig into Trump's activities (or more likely, just revealing what they already knew) Trump will just steadily lose support until election day. Looks like the Democrats just out maneuvered the Republicans this election cycle by saving their negative attacks for the last 6 weeks of the election.

Of course, it makes it easier on the Democrats that the Republican candidate is not only extremely corrupt but also completely incompetent instead of just being somewhat corrupt as most lifetime politicians like Hillary are.

They similarly outmaneuvered Romney and held back juicy stuff for months and released it at the perfect time.

That just reeks of competence.

So really we're all proud of the fact that personal attacks and smear campaigns are what marks "competence."

If only we could run on issues, but no it's "Miss Piggy" this and "Monica" that.

I'm sad that such tactics work, but that is the state US of politics today and it is why we have the two candidates that we have. The only ones to blame for this are the voters. Blaming it on the Republicans or the Democrats just shows ignorance. The political parties are going to do whatever works to get them elected to office.

If the majority of voters actually cared enough about politics (or even had the intellectual capacity) to spend 10 hours or so reading about the actual policies supported by the candidates, politics in this country would be very different than it is. Sadly, as we can see even from the typical discussions here on RSP, the voters are mostly morons.

If we were running on issues, policies and track record rather than personal attacks and smear campaigns, Trump would never have made it within a half mile of a party rally, much less been the Republican nominee.

Smear campaigns have been around since the founding of the Republic, or at least since the Adams or Jefferson presidencies.

As for hyperpartisanship, that's relatively new, but interested folks may want to look at the 90s and the Contract with America, and the rise of talk radio. Gerrrymandering also plays a primary role in this.

A pattern of grossly abusive behavior towards women and minorities IS an issue. And a pattern of doubling down on losing positions IS an issue.

I guess we just disagree on that.

If we were to focus on competence, I'm afraid trump couldn't name any international leaders outside of Putin. (Suprised Johnson couldn't at least name putin). And Aleppo*... HA!

* (I certainly had no idea about Aleppo myself tho. But putin, merkel, Tsipras, Jong Un, Abe (abe nomics), Jinpang, and Hollande are easy enough if you read the news or even the financial news.)
