Couple things.

1. The terrain at this battlefield was as close to "billiard table" as history can bring us. Darius picked it for that reason and made the Persians work hard to make it even more featureless. So some sort of hex map would be pretty much "blank terrain" everywhere. Meh.

2. Turning Point is open to trying new things-- and this is from Richard Berg, who sometimes rehashes the same old thing and sometimes brings forth something very new and interesting. I think this time it's the latter.

3. For the record, I think there are something like 40 counters used as 'markers' on the cards. And the cards are not held in your hand but played on the table like units. (And I realize other games have done this-- most recently ONUS! from Draco-- but this looks to be different.)

4. These cards/units are VERY good looking! I'm looking forward to it.

Well, Rory, thanks for doing a great job of demonstrating the point about the terrain being a non-issue. thumbsup

I'm never sure whether "more pieces = better game experience."
For the record, there are 82 unit cards in Arbela, which will make a pretty impressive lineup of their own.

As for prices, you can get a ziplock version for $30, including shipping to US, or 3 zips for 72- again including shipping.

Rory, quick question... why complete antipathy towards card-based game mechanics? What is so different from representation of units by -cards- as opposed to cardboard -chits- or -counters-?!?

If you don't like the look of the game, each to his/her own. But how can you go about openly trashing the game when *YOU HAVEN'T EVEN PLAYED IT*???

-UPDATE-

It appears you are itching to goad not just the creator of this game, but all of the TPS games. Again, I ask... WHAT is your major issue with this company? It's not very helpful "banter" and I don't understand what the purpose is.

Weelllll...I own 5 TPS games already and love them...but REALLY a card deck game for Gaugamela?

I loathe card games!

GO FISH looks better than card Arbela.

Ever hoid of SATIRE?

I have NO ISSUES with this company...I own 11 ATO games and LOVE them.

Euchre is better because at least I get cheated for just playing cards...but Arbela and its great historical turning point in history...really a card game?

And I have 23 games by this very same developer...so why can't I satirize this one single war...er...card game?

Look at the DUCK of Dearth and his Personal attack upon me already at CSW!

Oh by the way..., a quick comment... cards don't fit into hexes very well.:)

Great, so you loathe card games and you are making a feeble attempt at humour with your "Duck of Death" references.

I have no idea what your posts are, but they aren't satire.

Perhaps it's time to take your chip and shoulder, and move on from this game.

We get it, you don't -like it-.

It's not necessary to sound like a broken record, and you're not providing any useful information on this game.

I thought the Temperance movement started in the United Kingdom?

"I have no idea what your posts are"
Well American english is different the England english.

"...you're not providing any useful information on this game."
You are certainly NOT!

The duck of Deart comment is for ducks personal attack on me!

Any one in America can by a deck of cards and make their own Arbela game from scratch so why waste money buying that card game?

I'm warning people to ONT buy this card game

By that same logic, anyone can make -any- of the other games too, given enough time and interest. snore

Foolish
I'd be the person this fop is calling "duck of death." See that clever play on my name? Nice work, if you're 7 or 8. Not so good for adult work, but bold keyboard warrior stuff.

His multiple posts on CSW are even more boorish and self-aggrandizing than here. I suggested he should not post when he was drunk. Yep, what an "attack!"

Where is the block function?

Well none of you have even tried to defend this so called "wargame"!

All you seem to do is attack me personally.

Your the one's who are displaying crude insensitivity.

And I have no desire to enhance or exaggerate my own importance, power, or reputation.

Proving your the "block" heads.

Well, you obviously played incorrectly again. If you decided to play your own made-up version of Arbela, Darius should always win.

Sure is said out of ignorance!
You must not have read rule Number One:
King Alex always destroys enemies like a falling house of cards.

Then you must get your history from the movies.

Screw you. Roary Colic.

You've acted like an 8 year old drunk, and blaming it on your medical conditions is a typical coward's way of excusing bad behavior.
What's your "allowance for ignorance?" You've been a self-aggrandizing pain in the ass and I'm done with you.

Now you can always have the joy of the "last word," because I won't be responding to you again.
