Hey all, sorry if I overlooked this in either the rulebook or in the rules forum. I scanned through all the threads twice, though I did not read every single thread as many of them have ambiguous / non-specific titles (like "Rules Question"), but from what I saw this isn't defined anyway. I have read the rule book once, from cover to cover, but don't recall seeing this mentioned, and I also checked again the pertinent sections and didn't get clarity.

From what I read, it does seem that you substract or add the AP modifier, so if you were to put an Apprentice (base 1 AP) on a backstage spot on Sunday (-1 AP modifier) then that Apprentice would have 0 AP and since you can't use shards in the theater this would appear to be a futile / pointless move (especially since you'd be paying wages to do so).

Anyone else run into this or have clarity on it?

That is correct. So if you run into this situation, don't place the apprentice and then you don't have to pay the apprentice's wage at the end of the round.

Though you may still want to place your apprentice there if you know another player will perform a card with one of your tricks on it. You would still get the +1 fame and +1 coin for any of your tricks that are performed.

David did a great job summing it up. The Apprentice does indeed end up with zero action points for a Sunday performance. I guess with only one day to prepare/perform, he gets in the way a lot so is useless! So you aren't missing anything.

Anyway, I'm actually replying to 100% agree with your frustration on this point:

Call me a curmudgeon in this regard, but it really is irksome when people give their questions a generic subject line like, "A Couple of Questions". When I'm scanning a forum for a specific answer, I never open those threads. I consider it a potential waste of time.

Instead, if my question was yours for instance, I'd be using the exact same subject line as you did. And if I was the one asking a few questions, I'd break them up into similar categories and post them in separate threads, each with a subject line specific to the questions being asked.

After all, we are all here to help each other, right? And there's no better way to help the next guy than to make his/her search a lot easier.

First, thank you David!

And yes, Barry, I didn't wanna complain or bring the positive vibes down but it was rather strange to see so many titles as such. Totally agreed about the tip to ask separate, un-related questions in separate threads.

One thought; it is possible to make a suggestion to a thread to update / change the title? Might not be a bad idea to do in one's free time (I speak specifically of my own free time, of course, haha, which currently is not much as I am blinded by my preparations for our booth at SPIEL16!)...

That's what I'm here for!

And it's a common issue with every game forum on BGG. Just one of those things.

Note that in the Dark Alley Expansion, a special card from the theater can be used as +1 Action instead of whatever power is written on it.

In this way, an Apprentice assigned to the Theater on Sunday would get:

1 (itself) -1 (Sunday) +1 (special card)

Oh, nice one, BT! I haven't yet delved into the Dark Alley version of the game as my wife and I only just started playing. But I had a feeling there would be ways to get around this...

And Barry, I know what you mean. All part of the fun, I suppose!

I still wouldn't send an Apprentice to the Theater, ever.

Your Specialists are too valuable in terms of both available actions and their performance bonuses.
