I know the rule book says to have each player use two pirates however has anyone ever tried to just have a dummy player (or more) randomly play a card every round instead? If so how has it worked? Sometimes I only have three players but we all still enjoy this game.

It works OK - I do it sometimes for demos at conventions. As you might expect it makes it pretty random. I've never seen the dummy player win either.

Thanks for the response. I don't know how I feel about the three player variant where each player gets two pirates. It seems like a little too much to worry about or think about playing and worrying about two pirates so I thought the dummy player might just be easier.
