As it turned out, when Carcassonne ended, San Marco still had one passage to go, so everyone else looked for something to fill the time. Well, Joy and Alice needed to leave, and Heather also had to step away, but Jim, Oliver and Dave still needed to fill time. Dave picked out Flaschenteufel from Richard's bag, and we sat down to play.

We agreed to play three hands, so everyone got to deal once (to keep things fair). In the first hand Dave was able to do very well. He was dealt a pretty good hand of cards, with lots of high numbers. This meant that he could take a lot of tricks, but also meant that he wouldn't ever play trump, and therefore be stuck with the bottle. That honor went to Jim, who wound up scoring -8 from his imp trick. Oliver scored pretty well, but Dave jumped to a sizeable lead.

In the second hand Dave and Oliver each had lots of low cards. They wound up trumping lots of tricks, which meant the bottle kept getting passed back and forth between them. This had the side effect of keeping Jim from taking any tricks at all. At the end of the hand, Oliver had the one last trump that he was just unable to dump earlier, which earned him the bottle, and a -10 score. Since Jim took no tricks, Dave was able to significantly expand his lead.

In the last hand Dave had tons of low cards, and nearly all the low yellow cards. As a result, he was unable to shake the bottle, and he got his negative score this hand, a -9. Oliver only scored 12, which meant that Jim should have been able to register a pretty big score. And he did: a 69. But it wasn't able to overcome the zero score from hand #2, and the final result was that Dave kept his lead, and came away with the win.
