I found this waiting for me on my front porch today. Apparently this is Amazon's new PRIME shipping container... original shrink wrap (which was torn upon receipt). No collectors item for me, if such was my intent.

Luckily the box is undamaged and I actually plan to open and play the game, so nothing lost in that sense. Still, I am simply appalled at this. This was 2-day Prime shipping w/ delivery by USPS. WTF, man?

That's appalling. No product protection. If left on a doorstep, porch or hallway, anyone and everyone can see the item...making it ripe for theft.
Poor business. I suspect this is an Amazon worker's individual poor decision and not reflective of Amazon Prime in general. In fact, I'd let them know.

Not a board game but I had the same thing happen to my wife's order from zulily of a magnetic toy. I was planning on giving it as a Christmas gift and suddenly it looks funny with a big label that is tough to remove.

Looks like this is their "frustration free shipping".

If you look closer in the shipping part, there's an option to have it shipped in an actual box.

Have to make sure I watch for this going forward.

I'll have to look for the box option. I haven't clicked anything, but so far my games are still being delivered in an actual box (I just received 'Fury of Dracula' today).

It's serious. There are people out there who have complained enough about outer packaging that this is what we have come to.

Thank you for pointing that out, you guys! That explains a lot, I certainly missed that little checkbox when placing my order. I wonder how this works with 1-Click Buying option? Will definitely be more careful with future Amazon purchases.

It's kind of like what I experienced on my visit to Sand Francisco. When you buy fast food, they ask if you want a bag with that, then charge you extra if you answer yes. It is a conservation thing, I get that, it was just unexpected in my experience when it occurred. Where I live, the bag is included at no extra charge by default.

I wish half of what i got on amazon would come like this. Huge waste of boxes.

But the other half shouldn't....

I'm pretty sure you're still paying for the bag. It's just that you have no option to not pay for the bag.

I posted about this two weeks ago: Watch out ordering from Amazon.com! Looks like some items ship without boxes by default!. I was lucky and noticed the check-box.

You probably are paying extra. It's often city level laws.

I actually wonder whether this approach would be safer than the way Amazon was trying to deliver my games before, throwing them into a box with zero padding. This might give postal workers a second thought about how roughly it ought to be handled.

I've never had this problem as I've never ordered one game at a time.

Yup - a few of us have been complaining about this on another thread in this sub-forum (TedMarshall already linked to it above). I ordered a game through the Amazon phone app and didn't see an option to ship it in a box or else I would have. Mine ended up with some slight cosmetic damage on one corner.

Anyone who would steal what they can plainly see might consider an outer box as concealing a surprise of potentially great value. Seeing that it's "just" a game might be a bit of insurance.

(But protecting my purchase is what I'd want.)
