It's Texas Hold Em. Sign up is Thursday, starting at 8:00pm. There are prizes, though what they are varies. I think it's safe to say they will be games, although poker chip sets have been given in the past.

Strip poker? Really? shake

Strip poker? There are a lot of us there you don't want to see naked. Just trust me. Nothing good can come of it.

I thought it was pretty funny myself.

We take this games business far, far too seriously.

Sorry, that's correct: the sign-up is at the con. All official event sign-ups are at the con 24 hours prior to the start of the event.

I don't know what the size limit is and there isn't one listed on the Con Events page.

William, all of the event sign up sheets are on the wall near the elevators.

The thing with the poker event though is that there always seem to be a bunch of no shows such that if you are on the alternate list or even if you just show up, there is a good chance of still getting a seat. I have never been checked at the door to see if I was actually signed up. I would still recommend actually signing up just to be sure but I always have to laugh a little at the folks waiting in line to put their name on the list. I usually put my name on Thursday evening on Friday morning when walking by the list without wasting time in a line.

The limit for the Poker tournament is 250, but as Michel pointed out is that there are always no-shows, and a lot of alternates get in.

Another point I have not seen mentioned (if I missed it, forgive me) -

The poker tournament is free to play in, no buy-in required.

All players have an equal chip count, and in years past, random start seating positions.

I always look forward to playing, though I am not a strong poker player.

Prizes vary from year to year, so unless it is announced, I can only comment on past years, with the note that it might change.

I would venture it will be game bundles again for top placers. Poker chip sets have not been done recently.

Also not guaranteed, but in past years when you do end your play, you were given a commemorative chip, and the denominations changed as the group grew smaller. No promises that this will be done again this year.

To clarify... it's no limit Texas Hold 'em. Blinds increase every 20-30 minutes (don't recall the exact increment); at some point, antes will be required as well. As others have said, sign-ups open 24 hours before the event, which starts at 8 PM on Friday. The sign-up easel is usually near the FedEx business office not far from the open gaming room (which is one level up from the hotel lobby).

In past years, the top two players have won prizes - one year, one of the prizes was a copy of the monster Ogre game from Steve Jackson Games (the other was a set of 100 BGG poker chips).

They also put GG bounties on various VIP players such as Aldie, Eric Lange, Rich Sommer etc. Adds a little extra incentive to try and knock one of them out.

Jeff really does a great job with this tournament. For me, it is the one event that I will always sign up for each and every year.

It's a fun event that shouldn't take too much time out of your board gaming time unless you make it pretty far into the tourney. Missed it last year but I'm definitely gonna try to participate again this year. the
