"So you've got this crazy system where all of a sudden 25 million more people have health care and then the people who are out there busting it, sometimes 60 hours a week, wind up with their premiums doubled and their coverage cut in half. It's the craziest thing in the world...

"Former President Bill Clinton attacked President Barack Obama's signature health care legislation Monday, calling it a 'crazy system' that 'doesn't make any sense' during a Michigan campaign event for Hillary.

'It doesn't many any sense. The insurance model doesn't work here,' Clinton said about the government-run marketplaces Obamacare set up. Clinton said that Obamacare 'works fine' for people with 'modest' incomes or who are eligible for government subsidies, or Medicare. But he added that, 'the people that are getting killed in this deal are small business people and individuals who make just a little too much to get any of these subsidies.'"

Re: Bill Clinton surrenders, calling the Affordable Care Acre (aka Obamacare) "the craziest thing in the world"
It looks like Bill Clinton is advocating for Single Payer:

Quote:
Clinton, whose efforts with his wife to overhaul health care in the 1990s were stymied by a recalcitrant Congress and the insurance lobby, told the crowd the insurance model "doesn't make sense" and "doesn't work here."

Touting his wife's proposal to allow people without access to subsidies to buy into Medicare and Medicaid, he also acknowledged that market-based solutions would not solve the country's problems with insurance costs and coverage.
"On the other hand, the current system works fine if you're eligible for Medicaid, if you're a lower-income working person; if you're already on Medicare, or if you get enough subsidies on a modest income that you can afford your health care," Clinton said. "But the people that are getting killed in this deal are small business people and individuals who make just a little too much to get any of these subsidies."

He wants to go further than Obamacare, not go backwards like all of the Republicans want.

Sounds good to me.

Bill Clinton's plan in 1993 was far more radical than the ACA. Interesting that an RSP conservative is pushing Clinton's position when it's farther away from Sike's position than the ACA. Ah well, strange bedfellows and that.

Can't believe no one has said "well, he's just trolling for votes!!!"

He thought a similar plan floated during his first run was dumb too, and was against any mandatory insurance purchase during the Hillarycare debacle.

For a horndog, every so often he's right.

No they didn't.

The House voted 50+ times, and the Senate voted a handful. In most of those the majority won too; it was just the 60 vote rule that kept it from going to Obama (where it would have been vetoed). Even if both houses had done their jobs it wasn't going to get past the petulant child president.

Well even more to the point, the GOP really didn't try to push it. If they'd succeeded in repealing ACA, what fun, meaningless, base-pleasing nothing-burger votes could they do instead?

As for petulant, I can think of few things more petulant than voting to repeal a law 50-something times because a Democratic president had the GALL, the GALL to adapt a Republican health care proposal and get it passed.

Then there was no point in voting 50+ times. If they knew it would be vetoed, even if passed, what was the point in doing the same thing over and over? Perhaps it would have been better to pass legislation to improve the ACA instead.

This so laughably false, I wish the entire nation would rise up and punch Josh Earnest in the head.

They likely can, it would just be a really sucky plan no one would want.

Well now that you're moving the goalposts here...

No, they really didn't push it like they should have IMO. But that's okay, hopefully this year they're paying the price for failing in their duty.

"Over the past three years, my family's private, individual health insurance plan ... has been canceled three times. Our first death notice, from Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, arrived in the fall of 2013. Our second, from Rocky Mountain Health Plans, came last August. Three weeks ago, we received another ominous 'notice of plan discontinuation' from Anthem informing us that the insurer 'will no longer offer your current health plan in the State of Colorado.' ...

Every time we receive a cancellation letter, I recall President Obama's big lie: "If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor. Period. If you like your health care plan, you will be able to keep your health care plan. Period. No one will take it away. No matter what.' ...

Rocky Mountain Health Plans is pulling out of the individual market in all but one county.

...Oklahoma learned last week that they’ll face average rate hikes of a whopping 76 percent. Last month, Maryland approved double-digit rate hikes for all individual market plans. In August, Tennessee approved rate increases of between 44 and 62 percent for three insurers still carrying individual market plans. And in Minnesota, where the individual market is on the brink of collapse, state officials recently agreed to raise rates an average of 60 percent next year..."
