The grand hotel has wording to the effect

use 2 "a" to get 2b and 2c. Is this a misprint? Not sure what a,b,c are supposed to be.

They are resource types. Exchange 2 of one type to get 2 of each of the other types.

Just as Richard said above. To add, if you look on the back of one of the boss cards, there is a player aid that describes the icons. Some of these icons are not noted in the manual, so look there if you are not sure what an icon represents.

Didn't notice that the A, B, C icons were on the reference cards. I'll check it out. For some reason the wording/look threw me off the first time I saw it. Thanks again for the help!

Yes, but this contradicts the (completely backwards) intent of the iconography.

2x is said to mean "one each of two different resources."
xx is said to mean "two of the same resource."

By that token, 2A should mean "one each of two different As," which highlights how the chosen iconography fails completely.
