If you haven't heard, BGG@SEA (our week-long gaming cruise) for 2017 is going to be on the world's newest and largest cruise ship, Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas.

What you may not know is that our pricing on the cruise is incredibly good. Here's a comparison of our pricing versus what you can get directly from Royal Caribbean on their website. These prices are for two people, including all taxes, fees, and pre-paid gratuities for a fair apples-to-apples comparison.

Stateroom Category BGG Price RCCL Price
Junior Suite (JS) $5,100 $10,746.08 $7,639.08**
Balcony (D4/D8) $3,300 $4,960.08 $3,589.08**
Interior (K/N) $2,600 $3,408.08 $2,503.08**

**I was already to go with this post last week, then had to go out of town and didn't get it up. Since then RCCL has started running a coupon "BOGO60" - 60% off the second guest - through the end of this month. Even with that coupon, BGG pricing is less expensive on all categories except the interiors, still a great value when you consider it includes access to the game room and library. If you don't book your cabin through BGG you will have to purchase a badge to join our group - $250/person ($175 kids under 12).

Now the question is - how do we let people know? We'll be running some advertising here on BGG soon, but where else should we advertise? Let us know if you have any suggestions!

You could always run a contest for a free companion room - meaning those that book are entered into the contest and the winner gains 1 additional room for friends or family.

A contest is something we've thought about. We're checking with the accountant on tax implications...

I'd be more enticed by a free upgrade or two as a prize.
Frankly, I'd like to see more singles signing up, I had a ton of fun on the first one, but I had my best gaming buddy with me. Unless a lot more folks sign up, I'll be hesitant to be in a minority of not-couples. I know NCL is experimenting with smaller cabins for singles all in one area with their own lounge area, so no single supplement which might encourage more singles to sign up. Does this ship have anything like that you could add to your reserved suites?

No - I asked about studio / singles cabins and there are a very small number on the ship, all currently booked, and not usually available to groups.

I'm not super familiar with Cruise Critic. I've posted there on some Roll Calls, but that's about it. It looks like their policy on advertising, at least through posts, is pretty severe:

If anyone knows how to get in their "Deals" section, I'd be interested.

Have you considered using a permanent add on the home page (along with the raandom Banner across the top)? Maybe a small add that is always there so people don't accidentally miss it...

I think that's covered at http://www.cruisecritic.com/about-us/advertising/ - under Text Links: Deals
Ad type - Deals
Ad size - One Line
Max characters - 90
3rd party served - No

There's also "Email Sponsorship Guides" that include Deal of the Week info.

I think rather than targeting cruisers in general, I'd focus more on board gamers with a cross-interest in cruising/conventions. You could use ultra-targeted Facebook ads and targeted display ads to hit the intersection between people who enjoy cruising and board gaming (and further categories to narrow your audience even further). Mass reach advertising will be a waste of money. Getting higher frequency on the right slice of the population will give you the best ROI.

What have the other cruises garnered attendence wise?

What about setting up a display table at BGGcon to advertise the cruise? Brochures, pictures of past cruises, maybe get some volunteers who have been on one to sit there for a bit to answer questions and share what the experience was like etc. It might get people interested in signing up.

I like to think the discussion about who got the new ship went like this:

Can these people be trusted to look after the new ship?

Yes. These people sleeve cards and care for, largely, empty boxes like they are their children!

Those are good prices, but still more than I'm willing to pay to go to sea, having spent 8 years of my life on ships already.

Wow, this looks really cool.

I've noticed the interior rooms are sold out, except for a couple left for groups of 3-4. We're looking into this, but will probably wait for a later year if there aren't more interiors available.

I've adjusted the quantities on our interiors to have another for just double occupancy instead of requiring triple/quad.
