Same with "what's going on", "what's up", "what is happening", but only #5 for "is it true about".

Not sure where it started, but we had a "clown" threat around here sometime near the end of August. Supposedly, there were clowns hanging out around the woods, supposedly trying to tempt kids into the woods.

Thing is, there were allegations, but there was only one person that I remember actually coming forward and admitting to seeing one of these rogue clowns. Most of the other reports were anonymous.

I think all that has calmed down around these parts now.

When green is all there is to be, it could make you wonder why. But why wonder? I'm green, and it'll do fine: it's beautiful, and I think it's what I want to be.

It has to do with the movies The Purge.

High Schools were on high alert or lockdown last week because there was a threat on social media that clowns would be kidnapping students and killing teachers when they went to their vehicles at the end of the day.

I also read that there is a movement of no laws-everything goes for 12-hours that also is based on or inspired by the movies. There was an incident in KY in March where thugs roamed the streets, hurting people and committing crimes.

Clowns are not funny and neither is this "movement" or idea.

Google's auto-suggest is, in part, customised to the user (as identified by IP address or google account), and also the geographic region (incorporating other people's searches).

I can't replicate your results. I get "pokemon go", "airline food", and "hamilton". The first I can understand. The second is a bit of a mystery. The third has absolutely no meaning to me - I don't even know if it is referring to a person or a place.

So the deal is with you and what you've done on the interwebs

The "fear of clowns", circus clowns in particular as a psychiatric condition has become known by the term coulrophobia.

My wife is mad at me at the moment. She was telling me about this rash of clown attacks with the straightest of faces... I couldn't stop laughing.

"Mike, this is a serious situation. A girl was attacked by a clown"

An interesting question, indeed. There seems to be this popularity even in this small town of 15,000. This 'clown' business of people popping up out of bushes, running onto traffic filled roads, has come from somewhere, I don't know. However, the police in this area are quite aware of the foolishness and are taking action. The assholes are being apprehended, to be sure.

It's an old urban legend.

There's even a documentary about it on Netflix called Killer Legends. Well, it's one of the segments, anyway--supposed "clown sightings" are things people claim they've seen or know someone who has seen, but in reality everyone's just perpetuating a lie.

I suspect it's a combination of:

1. The new It remake
2. The Purge
3. Halloween
4. Teenagers being teenagers

Well, see, it's election time in the US and we have to vote for one or the other...

....oh, wait, you meant the other creepy clowns. Never mind.

edit: Ooops, looks like that joke was done already, and better. Carry on!

Old, but active. There have been ALL SORTS of reports of clowns doing bad stuff around SW Ohio.

My sister in law works for a local suburban PD. They got some call from somebody alleging "ohmygodCLOWNZ". So they sent a car. One of the cops asked if they could get the rifles out.

The detective said, "Hell, no - no rifles. This isn't fucking Clown ISIS."

Of course, there was nothing there when they arrived at the scene. Just like every OTHER clown report and clown hoax in the area.

And of course, in this day when EVERYBODY has their damn cellphones out ALL THE TIME, not one single photo of this horde of knife-wielding kiddy-luring evil clowns? Yeah, right.

Cincinnati had a false report of a Clown Attack.

A stupid woman(girl) of 18 was late to work and made up this excuse!

In Wooster, about 45 minutes north of where I live, there was some supposed clown attack. Sounds like mostly mass hysteria!

Pfft, back in my day we had daycare centers run by Satanic cults. Did you know that in the 1980s it was estimated that Satanists were sacrificing 80,000 people annually in the USA alone?

Even today's urban legends have gotten wussier.
