Austria:
To build, Pay 4 to place or replave track. only finished track may be build.
When we played we used the normal 3 or 4 with engineer rule so you could build up to 3(4) tiles as long as the connections were completed.

The board filled up very fast every time we played so that halfway during the game nothing much could be build anymore.... (with the exception of a urbanisation and then build towards that)

Most of the time building the 5 link town was impossible because there is no 4 link town to upgrade from. and building the 5 link proved very difficult because of this...

So are we playing this right or are we doing something wrong?
thanks fr any info
Cheers

That's how we played, which I think is correct.

Building a 4 link town uses a complex crossing tile + a city marker. In each of the towns listed as eligible for the 5 link town, it is possible for either a 4 or 5 link town to be built.

When I played, the board filled up very quickly with track, which I think is part of the point of the map. You need to calculate your income very carefully in order to secure the links you want early, because they probably won't be there by the next turn, when even bigger profits start rolling in.

All correct, Phillip, except that one may use either a complex crossing or a complex co-exist to form a Town with 4 tracks. Sorry for the late response, things have been busy here!

The board does fill up, but it seemed to take a bit when we played because of the strange economy, which forces slower money acquisition, and then expansion using that money.

The board is definitely full by the last few turns though!

Except for placing the Foreign Markets. There are 8, it is an 8 turn game, they require track connections to be utilized.

Definitely! This map, even moreso than others, encourages the use of the other player's track, especially if it means stealing a cube that they could use for a big delivery...after all, 5 income for you and 1 for them is better than 0 for you and 6 for them...

Thanks for the thoughts.
I forgot about placing special track with a town token, Duh!
