I understand that there are four deluxe expansions including the latest edition, Lost Realm. What are the others and what makes them different from the standard expansions.

Actually, there are five deluxe expansions with sixth one incoming.
They serve as a base for their respective cycle of six adventure packs (you can find the list on the BGG page of the base game). If you want just the player cards, then it does not matter. However, if you want to play quests from the adventure packs, then you need their respective deluxe expansion (with the exception of the first cycle, because it requires just the core set) for the encounter cards.

What you called "standard expansion" are the saga expansions. Those come in stand alone pairs and replicate some portion of the LotR story. E.G. The Hobbit.

In addition to not having an associated adventure pack cycle, saga expansions have very focused quests, often with unique objectives or items not ported over to the general game. Otherwise their sphere cards are just as interchangeable as any others.
