Kyra has a power that said "When you use the above power or play a blessing that does not have the Corrupted trait on another character check to defeat, a character at your location may shuffle 1 random chard from his discard pile into his deck after the check."

What is "check to defeat" mean? Does it restrict to combat check? Or it is all inclusive like acquire an item? check to close a location?

How about cards like Tancred Desimire. "Before you act,... succeed at an intelligence or knowledge 7 check or Tancred Desimire is evaled"?

Check to defeat would not cover Before You Act/After you Act checks - but any check on a bane in the box marked "to defeat".

For most monsters this is a Combat check - but there are exceptions (e.g. Acrobatics vs Ulkreth or Diplomacy vs Corrupted Soldier), and many barriers have various check to defeats that are not combat.

Confirming Michael's spot-on post. The power only works on checks to defeat banes (monsters, barriers, henchmen, and villains). These cards actually say "Check to defeat".

Note it does not work on just ANY check against these cards -- if the cards has a before-you-act or an after-you-act check, you can't use Kyra's power on that check.

Note it works on ANY check to defeat -- so Kyra is great against an Undead or Demon army. Give her the Acrobatics check.
