This is what GOP strategist Ed Rollins, who was the campaign manager for President Ronald Reagan’s re-election campaign and who also runs the pro-Trump Great America Super Pac has to say:

Quote:
The Trump campaign has had a rough ten days.

First it was his perceived weak performance in the first debate, followed by 3 am tweets insulting a former Miss Universe, and now the candidate has to control the severe damage wrought by the disturbing release of an 11-year-old video and audio tape in which he uses inappropriate and insulting language regarding a woman television personality.

It’s now a full blown crisis and only Trump can fix it.

Here’s how he can turn it around:

Do another mea culpa. And make it sincere. Apologize to your wife and daughters and all other women. Donald should bring this up during the first question of Sunday’s debate and address it.

Get on the phone and apologize to party leaders and eat humble pie. You’ve got to let them vent. If this controversy festers, the party could cut off the resources for get-out-the voter efforts, and then he’s dead.

Shift to issues. Talk about the economy and creating jobs. He’s got to show the contrast between him and Hillary.

Treat Mrs. Clinton with respect in the debate. You want to come off as a leader, not a chauvinist pig. Don’t interrupt her. Counter her points. He didn’t do that last time.

Don’t mention Bill Clinton and his sexual dalliances. People know about Bill Clinton’s indiscretions. He was elected twice president. At the end of the day, Hillary is running, Bill isn’t running.

Understand he has two debates and four weeks to turn this around. If Trump has a bad debate Sunday, he’s done. He has to have the debate of his life. He has to do the ultimate sales job of his life. Trump can’t have another bad week. The party will abandon him.

I don't think Trump can do that, but maybe?

Yes, but could he keep that up for four more weeks?

Probably not. Maybe for two debates and then stay off Twitter.

The impeccable timing of Friday’s #trumptape drop on the Washington Post, coinciding neatly with Julian Assange’s latest batch of Russia-hacked Hillaryland emails suggests that Clinton’s war room is armed and ready with oppo ammunition.

On any other October day, the Goldman Sachs speeches and John Podesta’s lobbying ties revealed in the batch of emails would have been headline news, and pollsters would have been detecting new dips in the Democrat’s numbers.

Now, those pearls of great cyber-price are almost already forgotten. But it’s entirely possible that Wikileaks has much more, and even more damaging emails. So it remains to be seen whether both sides have enough dirt to cancel each other out.

The Trump team actually needs more dirt since they are lagging in the polls and need to change the course of the election.

Trump can't keep that up for 40 minutes in a debate, let alone 4 weeks on the campaign trail.

And besides, all of this presumes that Trump has a garden-variety sane campaign team, instead of Breitbart's alt-right best and brightest.

And again, all of this presumes that this is a single incident rather than a pattern of behavior, with more revelations on the way.

They're still the marks at the poker game, and still don't realize it. Adorable and fucking priceless.

Trump's response to other criticisms of him has typically been, "You do it too." So I look for him to continue to bring up Bill Clinton's past including continuing to retweet Juanita Brodderick tweets. And probably say some nasty stuff. That's how he rolls.

This would indicate why the GOP is jumping ship in droves now.

This revised version is equally true:

Question is which camp is now in charge of the campaign strategy: The insane alt right Breitbart side, or the professionals. The "apology" given and the message from the surrogates indicate it is the former not the latter. So I don't see him changing anything

It really was a rough ten days for Trump. Wasn't the re-filing of the lawsuit regarding his alleged brutal rape of a 13 year old girl in the past week or so? It doesn't seem like much more time than that.
