I want to be able to rate a game 11.

What game doesn't matter.

I think each user should be able to give a single game an 11.

This denotes that, not only is it most probably a 10, but RIGHT NOW this is your favorite flavor.

It may change tomorrow. No obligations. Heck if you had a rousing game of Monopoly last night and there's a rematch tonight, and you've always hated the game, maybe for a day, it's your 11.

But your 11 should be the game that you're thinking about at lunchtime. The one you giggle to yourself about in the shower when you anticipate trying a new strategy tonight. The one you want to get to the game group early for, just to savor setting it up.

It changes. But you always have the obsession dujour.

Those who don't like the idea of the 11 wouldn't have to use it. But with only a single 11 to go around, it may fluctuate certain newer games up a bit and then back down as the 11 gets moved to another new game. Older games with 11s must surely be super great to be holding up against all of the new temptations.

11: The game I want to be playing RIGHT NOW.

Edit: I feel honor bound to point out that Michael Chapel (MWChapel) has introduced this concept in the past, as can be found in his post below.

But what if the rating system changed to make 10 a bit better than it is now?

Not a bad idea. But I have to admit that I have problems with rating things outside their scale.

I can't believe that people say you got to try 200% for something.

I see a thousand people that rated the settlers give it an 11.
this could affect the ratings big time. (all averages and ratings would be out of scale)

So in order to work the one 11 counts as a 10 when rankings and average ratings are calculated.
And if you asked for a rating breakdown you still were able to see how many people rated a certain game an 11.

I love this idea. I really hope we can do it. I know it will mess with the average ratings, but I say let it.

Assuming this is serious (a bit hard to tell), a 10 is a game that you exect to play and like forever, and an 11 is the game you like best at the moment?

I thought that your hot games list was where this would go. I can't figure out what else it might be for.

Maybe it would be better to just have a slot for one "my hot game" on each person's prifile. It could be interesting to see what the most selected games would be and see how they change over time.

Why would it. Just average it in as a 10, but calculate the number of 11s for each game.

Of course, we already have that, but it's cumbersome. It's called the Personal Top 10. Your top game there is your 11. It only gets credit for 10 points in the mean calculations, but it still counts as an 11 whenever Matthew runs the numbers to see which game is atop the most lists.

Me too. I like the idea of giving an extra little bump to you all time favorite game. The shill votes are already being taken care of behind the scenes so this wouldn't affect those. I would love to see this happen, and it's fun.

Heh, no need to give credit, I gave you thumbs up for this idea. Just wanted to point out, it has been suggested before and people liked it. I suggested it actually last year sometime in another thread as well, but couldn't find it. I think it's a cool and fun idea.

An alternative that would not mess with the ratings is to have a separate checkbox next to all your 10 games for "My One Top Game." The Top Game ratings statistics could then be calculated and shown as a separate category. I think it would be great to see what everyone's One Top Game was.

I want to see it sway some game's ratings, and create a more fluid "this is what people are liking" system.

If it tends to reflect 'what's hot now', then we already have that. New games get highly rated, then slowly slip down as more people try them and the shine wears off a bit after repeated plays (or doesn't , if it really is a great game).

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a cool idea. Heck, I'd give this thread a thumbs up if it wouldn't spoil the perfect number it has now. I just don't see it doing what you seem to think it will.

Allow one 11

This would be in effect a subdivision of the 10 rating.

It is still rated a ten for all intents and purposes so that, mathematically, it does not affect ratings or averages.

It would, however let us geeks specify what turns us on at this particular moment.

Any ideas?
