If Rook is in patrol and is "killed" and gains a crumbling token, does he remain in his patrol spot and just heal all damage?

He is a truly insane speedbump if that is the case.

He does stay and yes, maying him and severely hinder ground-attack based aggression.
If you find yourself facing a Strength codex and want to pursue some kind of aggressive strategy, you should plan a way around Rook early.

Some options:
1) -1/-1 runes are not discarded upon crumbling
2) Explicit sidelining effect. I've recently won a game against an early max Rook with red's Calypso Vystari + Charge
3) Avoid him with attackers that can ignore him for some reason (stealth, flying, invisible, unstoppable)
4) Return him to the command zone with Snapback or Origin Story

Depending on your desired level of aggression, it can also be reasonable to expand more resources than you usually would into killing Rook before he maxbands.

Yep. Strength is one of the specs that is decent at slowing the game down, and Rook is right in line with that.
