I feel like an idiot asking this, but the first two cards I flip over resulted in there being 10 cells in Afghanistan.

Am I doing this correctly?

1. Set up is for 'let's roll'
2. amongst other things, 4 cells in Afghanistan (the only cells on the board and Islamic rule)
3. Turn over "martyrdom operation" (3ops jihad card) and step through the bot:
- playable non-us? No.
- maj jihad poss at poor? No.
- funding tight? No (at 9)
- cell in good/fair Muslim where jsp? no
- poor Muslim with 1-4 more cells than tandm where jsp? No.
- funding moderate? No.
- cell available? Yes.
Recruit 3 cells with 3ops card in Afghanistan automatically due to Islamic rule, the only place that can be recruited in on turn 1.
4. Turn over "Libyan deal" (3ops US card, and ignored as per 12.4)
- rinse and repeat apparently.

Did I just get shafted due to two 3ops cards, or am I missing something?

Cheers!

Yes, it is common for the Jihadist Bot to recruit heavy in a safe place, and then spread from their via event actions or travel once recruiting can no longer take place.

Thanks guys!
I just never encountered that with the original bot and thought "yikes..."
Turned out not to be so bad!

I don't have the original flowchart handy at the moment, but I think that the old bot would have recruited with the first card and performed Radicalization with the second one (all three points), right?

Indeed, and a key difference is that the old radicalization was much harsher as it would start by placing a cell in a random country!
