I gotta say I've just finished a few games with the new expansion and I loved it. I'm already hungry for more. So I know it'll be awhile but what do you think will be in th next expansion? I've heard something about siege units being in the first edition. How did those work? And could they be in the next one?

What is actually happening is that the First Edition SINGLE expansion is being released as three SEPARATE expansions now.

You can get a clue here: http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgameexpansion/18034/war-ring-b...

They do/will however add considerably more then the single expansion did when added together. Although of course the first expansion also had two battles games as well.

The siege engines were the weakest part of the original.

The siege engines would have to be seriously retooled if they were to make a second appearance. Their addition to the 1st Edition game only dragged the game out, as everyone had to waste dice building towers.

Definitely benefited the Free Peoples, but in an unsatisfying way.

Just my own thought.

Battles are fine as they are, especially including Warriors and the Lords expansion.

What i would like to see is some more flavour to the fellowship, companions or minions.
Maybe some interesting cards for the communication between the different characters. Bormomir for example wanting the ring. Or Gandalf conversing with Saruman in some way. Gothmog slaying an Orc for disobedience
The strong tales that are being told by the game, can be enhanced in this way. Making it more personal.

This might be hard to balance and implement, for sure.

Just a thought.

I also would love to see Gollum expanded. Right now it simply helps the fellowship. It'd be great if his card was 2 sided. One side Gollum, one side smeagul and certain card effects can flip him over creating positive/negative effects on his involvement with the fellowship.

Our last session was played with Wotr CE, Lome LE, and Wome. This included the siege engines.

The game ended with the Ring being destroyed at the same turn as the shadow player getting a military victory.

The siege engines played an important role in slowing the shadow players advancement. Without them the game would have ended much sooner.

In my opinion, the free people player is more dependent on getting a specific action die result having less dice to roll.
For example, Gandalf the white didn't make an entrance until near the end of the game because no will of the west result were rolled in 5 consecutive turns.

The siege engines give an added option on trying to slow the conquest of strongholds.

We have had games where free people player have rolled a very few character action results in consecutive turns early in the game. This has usually resulted free people losing the game. In these situations the siege engines can give a chance to "ride out" the bad turns.

There are different tactics to winning of course, but we have found that the siege engines can balance the game in certain situations.
