http://www.foxnews.com/science/2015/11/17/ancient-board-game...

I thought this was an interesting article. According to the article the game hasn't been played in 1500 years. It's easily the oldest OOP game that I know of.

I'll let Fantasy Flight know. They'll update it and add the Star Wars license. They probably have some 14-sided dice lying around.

The Royal Game of Ur was OOP for 4400 years until the 1920s. I believe it's the oldest board game with known rules.

Brilliant! Someone should let Chessex know to mod up a d14.

Also makes me think what a treasure BGG is as an archive of games for just this reason.

Go would predate it. It's probably the oldest game still being printed.

I guess I should have said that The Royal Game of Ur is the boardgame with known rules which is known to have been played the longest time ago. The earliest evidence of Go is "only" 2500 years old, but it is reputed by legend to have a longer history (as reflected in the BGG database).

Based on the Wikipedia page about Liubo, it sounds like the two games are probably related.

"The ancient Greater Bo used six sticks, whereas Lesser Bo used two dice. Nowadays there is no-one who knows how to play, but in those days when it was played it used one die and twelve game pieces. It had very little skill, and was not worth playing."

Sounds like Liubo was a reimplementation of a Sinotrash dicechucker.

Ugh, looks like the publisher has pulled down the rules. Anyone have a copy of the PDF from 1500 years ago?

It's either by Rosenbergus or Feldix, for sure. Rosenbergus got knocked out by Feldix who fell in to the Wizard's Brew when he was a baby.
