I'd estimate that the rate of new, non-redundant threads of interest to people who are interested in actually playing games is under 5% (and falling like a stone).

Lets just say that being a regular here for the last 15 years, I haven't read an original question in over a decade.

What do you want to know? Why use the term Ameritrash/Geek. What's that game I remember from your Childhood(It's Dragonmaster, you're welcome). Why are ratings wrong. Why are Wargamers grouchy.

Bring it on. I've heard it all.

Maybe that's why Socrates hasn't logged in since 2009-01-22.

Very high, but that's ok.

I attribute it to two things.

1. The forum search functionality sucks. If I really need to search BGG I use Google and append boardgamegeek to my search.

2. I want to be involved in a discussion as much as I want an answer to my question. If we just look up whatever it is we want to know, it doesn't feel like a community. It feels like a database. And, opinions change and evolve. So, it's nice to refresh the thoughts on a topic.

I'm always amused by the fact that there are some people that complain if you start a duplicate thread, and some that complain if you post a new message to an old thread.

You just can't win.

(Personally, I think thread necromancy is the better option since it's more like joining the existing conversation than starting a new one. But it seems to be less popular overall, so whatever.)
