Hey all

Been running this squad a little on a simulator and would appreciate any thoughts.

I flew Backdraft in a tournament last weekend. He did what he needed to do against slow, sitting duck targets (like the shuttle) but had a hard time staying around long against aces. He was the softest target in my list and always the first casualty. I would be curious to see several working together, but I feel in general they would would die pretty quickly.

The TIE/sf is just ok. For one, the dial is pretty atrocious without spending the point for Twin Ion Engines Mk. 2. For two, they will die pretty quickly to any kind of focused fire, though they are better than regular TIEs or Interceptors in terms of endurance, but aren't slippery enough to generally avoid fire. My conclusion after a few games is that they can be OK, but not as the centerpiece of your list. They are better as support behind a centerpiece that can take the aggro. In my case, the list I found worked well was a VI Vessery with xD and Tractor Beam. FCS always gave me free TLs and that Tractor beam usually dragged ships into obstacles and/or range 1 shots over and over. Lots of fun.

I found the TIE/sf likes to be in a mini-swarm to help with making target selection more troublesome, and to take advantage of the front/rear arcs in a furball.

Also: Quickdraw, VI, Sensor Baffles, Special Forces Title is a pile of Alpha strike goodness.

I find at a native 9 he doesn't really need VI so much. Plus, Rage allows him to trigger his ability in the Activation Phase and shoot a token-less High-PS target before they move, or start hammering a lower PS.

I ran a Quickdraw/Soontir/Rexler Brath squad at a monthly Store Tourney in my area recently and the power of his ability even as a deterrent cannot be overstated. Faced almost exclusively Scum Wave 9 lists all day, and between Quickdraw and Rexler it didn't have much trouble taking most squads apart.

The TIE s/f is really the unsung hero of Wave 9. I mean, Fenn Rau is BRUTAL when built right, and the Shadowcaster is about the coolest ship to come around in a while. But for sheer offensive power relative to cost, it is very hard to beat Quickdraw/Rage/Baffle/Title.
