I currently don't have a programmable movement game in my collection and I was looking at this or Colt Express. I like the theme better for D&F. For those of you that have played both, which do you prefer and why? We would probably play with 2 or 3 most of the time.

Colt Express is lighter, if that's a plus for you. I like D&F better though. It's really hard to do much of anything surprising in Colt Express and I like the surprising part.

If you only intend to play with 2-3 players, you should be prepared to play with multiple characters per player. Otherwise, you may find a lack of tension/interaction in the game.

Honestly, if you plan on playing only 2-3 people, I'd recommend either Lords of Xidit or the new Mechs vs. Minions. Neither Colt Express or D&F play that well with 2-3 people. If you have to choose between those two, Colt Express is better at that number.

Late to the game here...

We own both. I got CE for my daughter (age 5 and anxious to play big kid games) and I got DF for myself. Both are good and bad at various things:

DF: You have direct confrontation and battling. The only way to score points is to mess with someone. You also have more control of your actions as you only program 1 ahead at a time (unless you're dazed). The cards have a lot of text to read and the first game with a group will take a while to figure out.

CE: You can try to play the entire game without directly attacking anyone (moving the Marshal, just running, etc). However you also program 3-5 more cards ahead so you need to plan more and more often your plans don't work as the board state changes. One run-in with the marshal and you're on the roof and there's nothing to steal now. The cards are all picture based and a non-reader can easily understand what is happening when programming cards.

I want to play more DF, personally, but I see my 5 year old continuing to ask me to take out CE for her.
