I can't think of why not. The guard's movement ignores the type of tile it's on, so it shouldn't make any difference.

I don't know... I guess it doesn't fit thematically... to watch inside a room where is a burglar. But again, I could be wrong.

Perhaps the burglar is just looking thru a keyhole or a small glass window in the door...a room is a pretty big place and the guard has more places to look than the burglar does to determine what type of room it is

The official rule is that you can peek at an adjacent tile to reveal it. There's no mention of a guard, which means the presence of the guard is irrelevant to your ability to peek.
