Yes, we all survived Nor'easter XX and another year has past. Nor'easter XXI is on the horizon for our annual Spring ASL fun! Due to popular demand, Nor'easter XXI will remain a 4 day event with the doors opening at 1000 EDT (1400 Zulu) Thu March 30th and run to Sunday April 2nd. See the end of the post for registration information.

What is the Nor'easter you ask? Well besides being a low pressure system that runs up the eastern U.S. seaboard, it is the premier ASL event in New England. There is action for all ASL fans of all skill levels!

The main tournament (Tournament Director Carl Nogueira) is 5 rounds (Friday mini players are included in the main tournament) over 3 days and there are also 3 "minis". The Friday mini (managed by Joe Gochinski) and Saturday mini (managed by Michael “Pooch” Puccio) are perfect for those who can only make it for 1 day (slots are limited so sign up early!). There is also the (in)famous Mo Fo mini (managed by Chuck Tewksbury of Tussle in the Tundra fame) which spans all 4 days (slots are limited so sign up early!). Don't forget, there are prizes galore and a great raffle too!

Unless you are playing in the Mo Fo, there is open gaming on Thu March 30th. The focus in the MoFo is on very large scenarios.

All skill levels are welcome at the Nor’easter. Just starting up and/or are playing ASL Starter Kit? No worries. We will find an opponent for you.

Extra special bonus!!! That same weekend, Dispatches from the Bunker will be celebrating its 20th anniversary with a special issue. Mr. Stalingrad, Tom Morin, himself has designed a new mini-CG and scenarios depicting the battle for Rees, Germany in March 1945. Dispatch #44 will be released at Nor'easter 2017 and it will include a historical map of Rees (VASL version will be available too), new rules, new VASL counters, a CG and 5 action packed scenarios. Show up and get to thank Tom in person! Info on how to get Dispatches from the Bunker at the end of this post.

What are you waiting for? See the information below on how to sign up and attend Nor'easter XXI and have a great time. You won't regret it.

Here's the blurb on the Mo'Fo

In the spirit of wanting to play something truly epic, something that is the Mo'Fo-iest Mo'Fo in recent memory, we will be trying something just a bit different in 2017.

The Monster Pack 2000 was created by War Oboe Productions, clearly with the idea that "bigger is better"! Among the many Mo'Fo candidates was a gem of a "scenario" that gave us a chance to offer a team-play situation that would likely span the entire tournament duration.

The scenario we've settled on is called, simply, "Gold Beach", recreating a portion of the D-Day invasion in 1944. Utilizing 24 geo boards, 8 sets of ocean and beach overlays, 100s of counters on each side, planning, setting up and playing will automatically make YOU a Mo'Fo of the highest caliber!

The scenario card calls for 8 players per side. However, based on previous attendance and the desire to have this span the weekend, we'll be looking to recruit 4 players per side. This is a BIG commitment. The German player will be expected to have a setup ready prior to the event starting. Carl and I have started mocking this up in VASL and Ralph has volunteered to setup the maps (only) at the Bunker so we can share some previews of what you'd be looking at. Much of the German setup is fairly static, but the BRITISH player should also have a pretty solid idea of their setup as well prior to the event.

The Mo'Fo will start on Thursday morning between 10 and 11am.

If you're interested and can make this commitment, please send me an email PRIOR to registering on the Nor'Easter page. If by some miracle we get more than 8 players, we'll figure out what to do then.

We have four and can use up to 4 more players to fill up Gold Beach! Sign up today!

Based on some playings history, we're going to allow the sides to conduct setup at the event on the first day. Getting this all working on VASL has proven to be a Herculean effort.

We are pleased to announce added support for Starter Kit (SK) at Nor'easter XXI.

Mitch Abrams has graciously volunteered to act as the SK point of contact on Friday and Saturday of Nor'easter XXI (Mar 31st and Apr 1st). Mitch will be responsible for getting SK players matched up, answering questions and be the general SK advocate. Of course SK games will still be available on Thursday and Sunday and our tournament director, Carl and the rest of the Nor'easter crew, will handle those matchups as usual.

While SK players have always been welcome at the Nor'easter we hope to attract more SK players by expanding our support. A big thank you goes out to Mitch for volunteering to coordinate this support.

Also, Carl is in contact with Patrick Ireland who is famous in the SK world as the great "teacher of SK". While Patrick is unable to attend Nor'easter XXI personally, we hope to gain some resources from him and possibly sessions over Skype. The details are still being worked out so stay tuned.

SK is becoming a bigger part of our hobby and by adding more support for it we hope to attract more players to the Nor'easter overall and expand the reach of our fantastic hobby. So come one, come all to Nor'easter XXI!

Hi everyone - with Nor'Easter now a scant two months away, I'd like to make a final pitch for participants in the Mo'Fo. We have 5 and could use at least one more British player and ideally 3 more to round out the sides at 4 apiece. Boards and overlays will be provided, all you need are your troops and the guts to take on a monster of monsters!
