I am trying to understand the placement rules. We played four and sometimes got some weird results following the stated rules. Is an implicit rules to this games placement that short sides of cards always should touch long sides?

There is no rule concerning the short and long side, even implicit. ;)

Ok. We got some weird configurations following the edge and two cards rules. So was just wondering. Perhaps you could play a game and take a picture of the resulting layout?

PS: great game! We played 4 times 2p back to back

Glad you liked the game, thanks ! :)

There are some example of layout in the rules, but if you see any configuration that seems weird to you any further, don"t hesitate to take a photo and we'll see what it's about. ;)

We also found the rules unclear. I don't have the game myself so I cannot take a photo, but the clarification you gave above should be in the rules, in my opinion. It helps understand the concept.

The example pictures strictly show a fishbone pattern. But the placement rules, as written, don't forbid connecting two cards by their long sides, which would no longer be a fishbone pattern. We played twice, once with the rules as written and once with the rules as implied by the examples (fishbone pattern). The latter seems to work a lot better, hence we concluded that the 'intended' rules follow the fishbone pattern. Could Henri or someone else confirm what the official rules are?
