I have the genesis for a game that would combine elements of strategy, luck, and fluctuating markets scrabbled down on paper and in my head. I am to the point where I would like to assemble a prototype for playtesting so I can work on the overall meat of the game and work out the inevitable kinks. Not having done this before, I need some advice. I know I can find bits from other games and from Hobby Lobby, and I have no problem painting them. I figure I can track down a map of the continent of North America (and all bordering bodies of water easily enough. Here are my questions:

1. Where can I (or can I) find blank playing cards that I can print up?

2. What material should I use for the board back and tiles?

3. Assuming that I can print up intial tiles, how do I adhere the prints to the tiles, as well as adhere the map to the board (not really essential, but it'd be nice while I am at it).

4. What do I use to coat the cards and tiles, so they don't get worn out. Is is possible to find a nice coat and self-apply that coat? This would be really helpful, because I am curious to know if anyone has tried this with games they already have that contain flimsy cards (I have Canal Mania and Memoir '44).

I am certain that I have other questions, but cannot recall them right now.

Thanks for any wisdom that can be given,

Jason

Great! I knew that something like this was out there, but was not real sure where to dig to find it. Thank you!

From my experience it`s the best to start with as little effort as possible concerning the look and the durability of the components.

You will change almost everything a couple of times, and if your work was too hard creating your components you have a very hard time throwing them away.
