I have this preordered, but I guess I'm a bit let down by the middling comments/reviews coming out of Essen. I think it will be a good game, but seems like another lesson in not letting the hype consume you.

Play the game first. Don't let the anti-hype consume you.

Or listening a new lesson : waiting to play your game before reading comments about this one.

An average of 8.26 with 104 votes is a bit disappointing yes whistle

I think a little anti-hype is good. I don't feel comfortable with too high expectations. No game can suit anybody. However, I am really, really happy how good its feedback is by now. So many 10s, 9s, 8s...Thank you!

Sometimes a designer is hit / miss with a particular person, sometimes they're always a hit and sometimes always a miss. Alexander Pfister has been in the "always a hit" camp with our group so far, so I have no doubts we'll very likely enjoy this game.

I don't bother reading other people's reviews or comments on a game I've already made up my mind on before I get it. I can't wait to give this game a try.

I tried it last night for the first time. I thought it was pretty good. The only issue for me was that it wasn't quite as interactive as I like a game to be. still, overall very intriguing.

I've only done a solo run-through to get a feel for the rules and it seems awesome. I prefer less player interaction, though, here I think it comes mainly from placing buildings in player's paths to force them to pay you every time they cross them (and putting hazard tiles in front of their buildings). Can't wait for my first real game of it tomorrow :-)

I also think there's a bit of interaction on the train track as you 'jump' over other trains. Reminds me of the game Numeri which I played on BrettSpielWelt.

A well-timed jump can go a long way...

Is this just a genius ploy by the OP to force players to reply with their review of the game?thumbsup

Probably better that way. Otherwise you would need to arrange for a container ship to carry your collection Down Under.

Flipping through the ratings, there are a fair number of 8's or higher that appeared to have not played the game.

I think it might also be a case of "Essen new release fatigue" where there are 50 games people picked up and they just don't have time yet to play some quality sessions with the games. Let the dust settle a bit, and we'll see which ones are left standing. I feel like this has been the case for many of Alexander's games, the majority of which are still in my collection getting consistent play.

Blood Rage taught me:

- Not everyone will like the game
- Those that don't will be tarred and feathered and denigrated until they do

Humanity taught me:
- Some people will love it simply because others told them to
- Some people will hate it and troll it, even if it was a cure for cancer, because it is the internet and that is how they roll.

All of the above taught me:

- See it for myself.

We just played this with 4 players. It's great if you enjoy deep Euros with interesting mechanisms. If you like Caylus, you will probably like this one.

I've only heard good things about the game. I expect it to be a lot of fun. Do you remember what made you worry?

I just played this game this Wednesday and love it!
It is not a worker placement game but the 'style' is like Caylus.
It is a mechanism salad but most importantly it works!
I have just arranged another session for this game. laugh
