Just went live on Kickstarter 24 hrs ago, somehow already pulled in $1 million.

Insanity - dude has a license to print money or something!

Not linking the Kickstarter, as I guess that's discouraged, but the YouTube video explaining the game seems fair...

One million dollars in 24 hours

Good grief...

I think the level of discussion here is warranted.

Babies are actually pretty ugly. Also, they're very lazy.

Further proof how little BGG represents the actual gaming community in terms of size.

So, it's a very simplified version of Evolution (where the only thing you can increase is size and population), but with angry babies in the watering hole that can act like reactionary carnivores?

Or how famous "The Oatmeal" is. Lets be honest, this probably wouldn't even get funded if not attached to that fanbase.

It gets boring to have these threads pop up spewing hate on a game... What are you trying to achieve here? People obviously like The Oatmeal and want to have what they are selling, nothing you can do and your opinion on the matter isn't relevant.

EK made gamers out of some people I know and I'm thankful for that, I got them to play celestia -> camel up -> colt express -> smallworld - ... -> mansions of madness 2nd edition.

Doesn't sound that mechanically good, but I think this is missing the point.

It sounds mechanically better than Exploding Kittens.

This has to be the most coherent, apropos post I've ever seen from Grog. pD

Oh, and $1M in 24 hours is indeed insane. I'll run out and back it as fast as I did the last one (i.e., not).

That's not saying a lot, the oatmeal couldn't even save that one with his artwork.

(Probably why no one of talking about this)

Not a 'hate' thing at all, just an astonishment thing.

I mean $1 million is...geez that's a lot of money. In one day?!

Buying a novelty game does not necessarily make you part of the gaming community.

I wouldn't worry about it, I'm sure The Oatmeal guys will get over it. Possibly by diving into a large pile of money like Scrooge McDuck.

Party games in general don't get discussed here (well, at least ones without a big named designer attached to the project).

It is doing pretty well. One of my friends has it, likes it, and brings it out most game nights as a filler to play while waiting for people to arrive, grab a snack, and settle in.

BvB looks to be a slightly heavier game that fills a similar beer and pretzels niche. I am not going to get it, but my previously mentioned friend is. I think that it could be fun to play once every month or two.

I don't mind Exploding Kittens. I couldn't play a night of it, but I couldn't play a night of most filler games. It's simple and fast. The gameplay is more enjoyable than something like Uno.

I've spent far longer playing far worse games that were marketed to hobby gamers. I'm not sure why there's so much disdain for Exploding Kittens.

FWIW, I'm half wondering if the "30 second pitch" isn't selling it short.

There is plainly an icon over most (?all?) of the cards that seems to come in ?4? flavors that doesn't get mentioned in the pitch at all. I've got no idea what that relates to, but could potentially speak to some important rule (or maybe even 'built in variant'?) that we aren't seeing.

EDIT: Or, hrm...maybe...actually, it seems like those 4 icons are only related to the monster heads, and the babies. So the babies are random symbols...and the monster heads are...I bet when the "babies attack all players", you are just comparing the babies of a specific TYPE against the monsters you have that MATCH that type? So you are basically watching for when the weight of babies on the table of specific colors seems likely to defeat the mix of the other player monsters that you want to beat...and risking your own only happens if/when babies of the same color as your monster heads are in play.

I should probably clarify that I'm not trying to hate on Exploding Kittens, I didn't personally back it because a) way to lite for my tastes and b) everybody else did so if I ever desire to play it won't be hard finding a copy.

That said I did back Bears vs. Babies because there is some game there (how much to be determined) and I like the humor and think it would be a good game to bring out with non-gamers.
