The order of the songs (other than the last 2) is what sold best, according to Billboard Singles charts.
Not included there is the Billboard #1, which is "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around"; a duet with Stevie Nicks.
Also not included are any of Tom's "Traveling Wilburys" material.

Alright, so I'll start the debate:

The only reason I see for not voting for Mary Jane's Last Dance is that it gets so much airplay, because it is that good.

Or because Breakdown edges it out, but just barely.

No, no gentleman. It's because "American Girl" is better than both of them.

Wow, very tough. Lots of good ones, obviously, and not any that particularly stand out. I went with Refugee, but I could have easily chosen any one of half a dozen others. The man's good.

This song always reminds me of Silence of the Lambs.

The old stuff is good enough (I voted "Refugee", but there are ~5 others that would be just as good); I can't stand the new stuff. "Free Fallin'" is the freakin' worst.

Dude, Free Fallin' is 27 years old. That's hardly "new stuff" gramps!

The answer is clearly "American Girl."

If you compare musicality, composition, story, impact, and seven other intangibles, who knows what you will get.

However, "American Girl" is the only one I will crank up on my car stereo EVERY SINGLE TIME IT COMES ON.

(and it was a genius choice by Jonathan Demme)

LOL, I have a college friend who DETESTED "Free Fallin'" on multiple levels. She should have never told us that.

At the slightest provocation we would break into that song: something was being given away free, the words "Boulevard" or "good girl" were said by someone, etc.

You would think it would be impossible to sound more irritating than Petty's original vocals but we managed.

I voted for Refugee too.

One of my favorites, along with You Wreck Me is the cover of (Pete Townsen's pet project) Thunderclap Newman's, Something In The Air.
I love all of Mojo too.

When green is all there is to be, it could make you wonder why. But why wonder? I'm green, and it'll do fine: it's beautiful, and I think it's what I want to be.

He does churn out some fantastic songs with the same 3 or 4 chords. Maybe the best hook writer of his generation. I went with 'Last Dance...' because it is gritty and honest. But I have a soft spot for 'Wildflowers.'
