The Final Roll Goes Essen 2016 Recap:
Alright as I was looking at my notes from Essen Spiel (all 14 pages of them) I realised that it had turned into somewhat of a diary with a lot of personal stuff in it. Now I know podcasts are widely accepted to be used as vessels to inform the listener with whatever feeling you’re having, but I’m not really that kind of guy, so I will give you a very short summary of each day and then move on to the Interview.

Day 1: Shopping… A ridiculous amount of shopping. Some games I wanted for a long time, some games I backed on Kickstarter and a lot of new stuff. Snapped plastic bags, multiple of them and a very nice late night talk on the Central Station with Bez. Shoutout to Bez, game-creator and person extraordinaire! Check out his stuff on, really worth it.

Day 2: Some looking up people, Met with Gonzalo from Thundergryph Games (Who published Overseers and was on my show when that campaign was running). Played a Big Potato game but more on that later. Met up with Mark from The London Board Game Company. Shoutout to him as well, not only for playing and designing a very fun game, but also for pointing me to the Modiphius party later that night, which was a learning experience to say the least. Also met up with the guys of Ludus Magnus to see how one of my most anticipated games ‘Nova Aetas’ was coming along

Day 3:
Finally no Shopping… ok, a little bit. But only a little. Started off the day playing Burning Games’ ‘Ether Wars’ which will be the third review later on. Met up with Minos Games to check on why their Kickstarter was cancelled, They’ll be back in april. Finally played a Game of Guards of Atlantis with the real game and closed off my SPIEL with a really quick interview with Japanime Games.

All in All this SPIEL (my first) was just as much of a learning experience as it was a fun one. And it was a fun one! Some of the Lessons Learned:
* Bring less money and More business cards.
* Buy Less games and play more
* Get more quick, 5 minute interviews from creators.
* Bring a laptop of sorts
