Tried the game out, and one of the missions was to explore the moon.

I had the surveying achievement so I surveyed from the Lunar Fly By and the moon ending up being the "destroy spaceship because of dust storms".

Does the ship get destroyed if I flip it over? It didn't actually land, so I would think not, but couldn't find anything to back that up.

I lost it anywas in the fly by, but was just curious.

No, the destruction is a landing hazard, and you haven't landed.

The ship would be lost when performing a maneuver with the Moon hazard on it (the crescent in a grey circle). Since you didn't perform the Lunar Fly-By > Moon maneuver, the dust effects of the Moon didn't destroy the ship.

Ah, I think I get it now.

For some reason I'm having trouble wrapping my head around this one.

However "strange readings" from Europa might destroy the spacecraft for thematic reasons - if performed for the 1st time...

Especially if those "strange readings" turn out to be William Shatner reading the Twilight series aloud. That'd destroy any spaceship.
