A PWV 2 swarm isn't going to really work. The closest working swarm is probably B'Rels.

Now those are nastier, but unless you plan on fighting at range 1 a lot, i wonder if Constitutions or even sabers are a better choice.

The scout cube isn't a bad ship but it isn't a heavy hitter without the Magnetometric Guided Charges.

What they others said. I have seen a 5 Miranda fleet with some upgrades on them do very well though. Keep in mind that you still have 22 points free (for a standard 130pt fleet) even with your 6. Plenty of room for some secondary weapons to boost up their attacks. If you drop to 5, it also gives you points to slap on some captains so that you aren't always shooting last.

Closest thign to a swarm that I 've really run was 3 Galors & 2 Hidekis. I did run a 5 Tholian ship fleet, but it was for a specific op event where your ships respawned, so losing them wasn't that big of a deal and as long as one was still alive, I got to keep all of their webs in play and made a mess of the battlefield, lol.

I think swarms may be more possible now that we have more weapon upgrades available. The new Improved Phasers from the Enterprise B is a great upgrade for ships with only one weapon slot, such as the Miranda.

That leaves plenty of room for things such as Admiral Hayes and Clark Terrell. Rapid Reload is also a great option for only 2 points and it can take up a crew slot if necessary.

Swarms need two things that are hard to come by in STAW. First they need threatening weapons. That is now feasible. Then they need to survive at least 1 or better 2 hits. That is more problematic. If every enemy ship, probably with better captains shoots first you will lose 1 ship per enemy shot if they cannot. The only thing that is most commonly used is the cloak which only works up to a point.

This sums it up well. Just one addition: Somraw/Kor6 typically can force a few shots from the enemy fleet. So a swarm has a prayer.

I also wondered about those new 6SP/6die torps off the Cairo. If a retail expansion had those, you could swing a Miranda Swarm. Even better would be at a ace that doesn't retire resources so you cod add the High Yield Resource.

Few have that many D7s. B'Rels are more likely. The problem with even the Klingon Swarm these days is a Federation (or other) build with 5 dice and good quality. It will one shot most of the time anyway.

The good news:
Borg Support Vehicle Dock reduces the cost of the Support Vehicle by 15SP. Sphere 936 also gives you a 2SP discount on an Upgrade if it's used as a Support Vehicle. Put those together, and you have 17SP to spend in your second list as long as you put an Upgrade on the sphere.

...and the bad news (if you were to use these in an official event):
1. The Scimitar has a base ship cost of less than 43SP, so it would be capped at 50SP for the ship, Captain, Admiral, and Upgrades.
2. You cannot use the same ship as more than one of the following: Borg Support Vehicle Dock, carrier for a Fighter Squadron, or carrier for a Shuttlecraft.

alright..so i would just remove the improved cloak and all good!

and for no.2..does that mean i cant have the fighter and dock? hm..wounder if it would be enough points for a scout cube left..

You can have both fighters and a dock in the same fleet, but they have to be designated to different ships. If you drop the Proton beam and take no upgrades on the sphere, that leaves you with 19SP to spare, which is enough for a generic Vulcan Suurok class to act as your carrier ship for the fighters.

Wait, when was it ruled that fighters can dock on a capital ship? ^^; I've never seen anyone do that yet.

Theyre talking about the Borg Support Vehicle Dock, not docking fighters.

Just took me 20 seconds with a calculator. It isn't hard. Though, it's my understanding that it actually is pretty hard for the programmers behind the website/apps to code it so that it gives the discounts.

Fighter's don't actually land on a ship, but they have to have an accompanying ship with 4+ Hull. I called it a "carrier" to keep it shorter.
