I haven't got much further with Day 5 yet due to being away from home last weekend, but here's the fortnightly update.

17 December (Turn 2)
Normal, Poor, 1 hex
Allied Air Points: 0
7th Armored is placed on the road NE of St Vith.
German replacements are 3AV, 1 Tiger and 8 non-AV.
Allied replacements are 3AV and 4 non-AV.

The German wins the first player roll, and chooses to activate first.

3rd Fallshirmjager Division
Fatigue: 1
SNAFU mods: -1
Activation: Pass
The division hopes to sweep aside the units of 14 Cavalry Group to allow Peiper and 1st SS an open road west, but the rolls for barrage and attacks are appalling, and the paras take losses for no result. Fatigue increases to 2 and there is no 2nd activation.



2nd Infantry Division
Fatigue: 1
SNAFU mods: -2
Activation: Fail
The division accepts the Fail and tries for a 2nd activation, but fails with a 1.

62nd Volksgrenadier Division
Fatigue: Fresh
SNAFU mods: +2
Activation: Pass
The formation concentrates on clearing the roads to St Vith, but once again barrage results are disappointing and progress is poor. Fresh status is lost and there is no 2nd activation.



CCB/9th Armored
Fatigue: 2
SNAFU mods: -2
Activation: Pass
The formation pulls back over the Our and kicks the I/190 across the river with 2 step losses. Their intent is to block the advance of 62VG against St Vith. Fatigue remains at 2 and there is no 2nd activation.



2nd Panzer Division
Fatigue: Fresh
SNAFU mods: +2
Activation: Pass
The division's panzers roar across the completed Dasburg bridge and eliminate the company of the 110th in Marnach with multiple attacks by fire as they drive by. KG Gutman gets all the way to Allerborn, far to the west of Clervaux, while other units sever the MSR to that city and prepare to siege it.
Loses Fresh status and gains a 2nd activation

Activation: Pass
The continued push west overruns the supply train of the 110/28, which relocate back to Bastogne. Clervaux holds firm with just 2 steps of engineers remaining. A stubborn defence by the 110th 2nd battalion in Donnage holds up the bulk of 2nd Division’s armour, but spearheads reach Bourcy and Magaret. Fatigue remains at zero.



106th Infantry Division
Fatigue: 0
SNAFU mods: -1
Activation: Partial
The troops in the Schnee Eifel are ordered to break out and retire on St Vith any way they can. Ten steps are lost by the retreating cut-off troops. Battalions on the Our drop back a little to coordinate a defence line with CCB/9. Barrages are ineffective. Fatigue remains at zero and there is no 2nd activation.



26th Volksgrenadier Division
Fatigue: 0
SNAFU mods: +1
Activation: Partial
KG Kunkel loses a step while attempting to drop support on L Company of the 110th. An attack leaves the US Company with just a single step. Troops march westward, but are delayed by the need to remain in communication with the HQ. Fatigue increases to 1 and there is a 2nd activation.

Activation: Pass
Kunkel and 2 battalions finish off the US company. An attack on Wiltz captures the city, but the bridge is blown. The Pioneer unit reaches Niederwampach, 8km east of Bastogne. Fatigue increases to 2.



4th Infantry Division
Fatigue: 0
SNAFU mods: -2
Activation: Partial
The defensive line is readjusted slightly, and a barrage kills 2 steps of II/423. Fatigue remains at zero and there is no 2nd activation.



560th Volksgrenadier Division
Fatigue: 0
SNAFU mods: +1
Activation: Pass
A battalion move north to Weiswampach, cutting the MSR to 112/28 in Ouren. Attacks and artillery kill 4 steps at the cost of 1. Fatigue remains at zero and there is no 2nd activation.



109/28th Regiment
Fatigue: 0
SNAFU mods: -1
Activation: Fail
The 2nd battalion retreats to Bastendorf, losing a step. There is no 2nd activation.



18th Volksgrenadier Division
Fatigue: Fresh
SNAFU mods: +3
Activation: Pass
The 3/423 is destroyed in an attack on Bliealf. KG Renn crosses the Our at Schonberg and the division pushes west, driving the retreating GIs of the 106th before them. The formation remains Fresh and a 2nd activation is gained.

Activation: Partial
An attempt to force the crossing at Andler fails, but KG Renn’s shock attack drives back the 81st Engineer battalion and then kills a step of CCB/9s mechanised infantry. The Division remains Fresh.



CCR/9th Armored
Fatigue: 1
SNAFU mods: -3
Activation: Partial
TF Rose recaptures Weiswampach and opens the supply line to Ouren after exchanging step losses with I/1128. Fatigue increase to 2 and there is no 2nd activation.



326th Volksgrenadier Division
Fatigue: 2
SNAFU mods: -1
Activation: Partial
Hofen is taken and the garrison forced to retreat. II/752 marches rapidly through the pass and seizes Kalterherberg in the hope of blocking the oncoming 9th Infantry Division. Fatigue remains at 2 and there is no 2nd activation.



CCA/9th Armored
Fatigue: 0
SNAFU mods: -2
Activation: Partial
The Command pulls back from the Sauer and forms a thin screen from Beaufort to Bettendorf. There is no 2nd activation.



277th Volksgrenadier Division
Fatigue: 0
SNAFU mods: +2
Activation: Pass
A series of attacks clear the northern trail through the Hansfelderwald, and sends the 99th Infantry’s Engineer battalion to the graveyard. The 1/393 holds firm on the southern trail however, blocking the advance route for the 12 SS Panzer. Fatigue remains at zero and there is no 2nd activation.



1st Infantry Division
Fatigue: 1
SNAFU mods: -2
Activation: Pass
The attack through the Hohes Venn destroys one VdH company and sends the other and the HQ in retreat down the western road to Malmedy. The HQ takes advantage of the cleared eastern road to reach Sourbrodt. Fatigue remains at 1 and there is a 2nd activation.

Prep Def is set up as per rigid 5th Corps rule.
SNAFU mods: -2
Activation: Partial
A single battalion mops up the remnants of the paratroops, while the 26th Regiment moves east through Malmedy and the HQ digs in. Fatigue increases to 2.



276th Volksgrenadier Division

Fatigue: 0
SNAFU mods: +1
Activation: Pass
The division pushes back the tanks of CCA/9. Fatigue increases to 1 and there is no 2nd activation.



9th Infantry Division
Fatigue: 1
SNAFU mods: -2
Activation: Partial
The division slowly probes toward Kalterherberg, with a barrage killing 1 step of the 326VG spearhead. Fatigue remains at 1 and there is no 2nd activation.



212th Volksgrenadier Division

Fatigue: 0
SNAFU mods: +1
Activation: Partial
Single step losses are exchanged with 4th Infantry. Fatigue increases to 1 and there is no 2nd activation.



110/28 Regiment
Fatigue: 0
SNAFU mods: -5
Activation: Fail
I think it best for the unit to try and die in place to hold up the advancing Germans as much as possible, as the Train has moved to re-establish a supply line to the north but it is likely to be rolled over very quickly. 1/3 Company retreats NW to establish a safe path to the HQ in Clervaux. No roll is made for a 2nd activation.



5th Fallshirmjager Division

Fatigue: 0
SNAFU mods: +2
Activation: Pass
5FJ charges forward through empty countryside, capturing undefended Ettelbruck and lead elements reaching Heidersheid. Fatigue remains at 0 and a 2nd activation is gained.

Activation: Partial
The formation keeps pushing westward, now staring to worry about outrunning its supply lines. A motorised battalion is left to hold Ettelbruck until it can be relieved. There are no Americans within 12km of the main body of the Division.



7th Armored Division
Was entered as a used formation. Fails to obtain a 2nd activation.

352nd Volksgrenadier Division
Fatigue: 2
SNAFU mods: -2
Activation: Partial
The struggle for Bettandorf continues with the only losses to the attackers. Fatigue increases to 3 and there is no 2nd activation. There seems to be a lack of National Socialist Ardor in this formation.



112/28 Regiment
Fatigue: 0
SNAFU mods: -3
Activation: Fail
The units remain where they are and the 3rd battalion loses a step due to isolation. No roll is made for a 2nd activation.



With no Allied formations left to activate in the south of the map, the Germans have a free hand…

Lehr Panzer Division

Fatigue: Fresh
SNAFU mods: +3
Activation: Pass
The division crosses the Our and turns north up Skyline Drive, concentrating around Heinersheid. There is no 2nd activation.



14th Cavalry Group
Fatigue: 0
SNAFU mods: -2
Activation: Fail
The encircled units each lose a step, eliminating the Light Tank squadron. I do not try for a 2nd activation.

116th Panzer Division
Fatigue: 0
SNAFU mods: +2
Activation: Partial
The Division pulls back from Ouren and is re-tasked with breaking through Burg Reuland. TF Booth is eliminated by accurate tank fire, and an unprepared battalion of the 106th thrown out of the village with losses. TF Harper is forced to fall back on the CCR/9 HQ. Mech infantry press up Rollbahn LVII towards Beho. Fatigue increase to 1 but unfortunately, with nothing but air ahead of them, the formation fails to reactivate



99th Infantry Division
Fatigue: 0
SNAFU mods: -2
Activation: Partial
With 2 Panzer Divisions on their way, the men of the 99th hunker down and prepare to defend Bullingen and Krinkelt, and the approaches to these villages. 1/394 loses its last step to isolation, leaving the road to Hunningen open at last. Artillery kills a step of a unit on the northern front. Fatigue remains at 0 and there is no 2nd activation.



12th Volksgrenadier Division
Fatigue: 2
SNAFU mods: -1
Activation: Partial
The formation throws itself at Bullingen and the 2/394. KG Holz drops support of both defending stacks, but the attacks trade step losses in each case, with no movement of the front line.



KG Peiper

Fatigue: Fresh
SNAFU mods: 0
Activation: Pass
Peiper’s Tigers take the lead, and blow away a company of the 14th Cavalry in Manderfeld, then driving back the second company holding the bridge at Andler. The 6,7/I Panzers follow up the success, finishing off the last step of the retreating company and almost reaching Meyerode. The other Panzer battalion destroys the last step of the Cavalry Group, which is removed from the map, and it finishes just outside Ambleve. The rest of the KG moves up in support, bouncing the supply train of CCA/9 and firing an ineffective barrage at TF Erlen. Fresh status is retained, and a 2nd activation is gained.

The spearhead reaches Recht, bouncing the 7th Armored and CCA/9 Trains en route. Two task forces of 7th AD are driven off with losses in engagements with 6,7/I. The formation remains Fresh. Peiper hopes the supply chaos he has caused will limit any response by the US units to his south.



1st SS Panzer Division
Fatigue: Fresh
SNAFU mods: +1
Activation: Pass
The Division follows in Peiper’s footsteps as far as the Andler bridge, and then takes the northerly trail to Ambleve. A second activation is gained.

Activation: Fail
Confusion prevents further progress.



12th SS Panzer Division
Fatigue: Fresh
SNAFU mods: +1
Activation: Pass
A Double Tap goes on the unit south of Krinkelt. The plan is to overrun the HQ of the 99th, so dropping prep def which should allow the recon unit to lead an attack against Bullingen. 5,6/I drops support in Krinkelt and on the unit to the north of the village. III/26 leads the attack on Krinkelt. A step is lost on each side but there is no retreat.

KG Bremer moves towards Bullingen, but it takes both fire actions to place an OBJ on the 2/394 holding the approach road. The JgPz move up, and knock out the last of the towed tank destroyers supporting the 99th ID. An attack by fire kills 1 step of the 2/394 (to 3). 1,3/I panzers move up and kill another step, then makes a shock attack which trade 1 loss each. The truck mounted infantry move up in support. The formation remains Fresh and a 2nd activation is gained. Well that could have gone better!

Activation: Pass
This time, with a heavy barrage and attacks by fire, the defenders of Krinkelt are eliminated and the 99th HQ forced to retreat. The JgPz finish the last step of 2/394, and this time the recon unit is more successful, placing an objective and then leading the attack which takes Bullingen. The division remains Fresh.



150th Panzer Brigade
Fatigue: Fresh
SNAFU mods: +2
Activation: Pass
The Brigade moves west through the gap between 1st and 12th SS Panzer, with lead units reaching Modersheid. A second activation is gained.

Activation: Partial
The advance continues as far as Waimes.
