Would this be possible or not given the game mechanics? Thanks.

I tried exactly that and it seemed okay, but I'm not saying you should rush to buy it based on that. Minor addition to that is that your final score is the score of the smaller scoring character you have. Break ties with the bigger score.

Thanks. I would buy the game either was but it is nice knowing that it is at least possible to play that way. Is this a variant listed in the rule book or one that you tried on your own?

It's not listed. But keep in mind that the game is really designed for 4+ players and this variant is basically nothing else but each of you playing two players. So all I'm saying here is there is no weird thing that comes out of the mechanisms when you play it like this. For example it totally makes sense to shoot at your other character just like in a normal four player game.

You could just play all five players solo and go balls-to-the-wall.

That is clearly not the optimal solo variant. The best solo adrenaline variant ever is when you play it as timed puzzle game, and your objective is to move a single character in the least possible actions through the randomized map so that it picks up all the ammo tiles (do not refill them after each turn) but because of the limit you have, you have to also grab weapons you can load the excess cubes into.
I mean. Clearly. Duh.

You mean playing a multiplayer game solo at full player count whilst attaching your balls to the wall isn't optimal? Well, this is a revelation!

Oh, come on! The rest of my comment was supposed to be the funny part!
