My birthday is coming up next week and I know that several family members have gotten together to buy a TON of games off of my wishlist. It got me to thinking...if they bought EVERY game that I had marked as "must have" (which they couldn't possibly have done, but hypothetically speaking) then I would have a very strange wishlist. Tons of "love to", "like to", and "thinking about" games, but no must haves.

If you found yourself in that situation, would you go through and update your wishlist, upgrading each game one notch in the priority department? You don't necessarily want those games any more than you did before, but there's really nothing you'd rather have.

Just the use of the word "priority" suggests that you should bump them all up...how can the game you want most be a priority 2? Something needs to be priority 1!

Re: Living the dream: owning every "Must have" on your wishl
Simple, make something that is not in print yet be priority 1, like Race for the Galaxy.

I don't know; I have "like to have" games and "thinking about" games, but no "love to have" or "must have". So, no, I don't think you need to use the whole spectrum of wants. Besides, it makes it more likely that you'll be suprised when people buy you stuff off your wishlist.

Happy Birthday!

I use it more to keep track of things that looked interesting at the time I found them. If all of your 1's were bought, there may be a few 2's that would take their place. But the majority would probably stay where they are. And remember, new games are always coming out, so I am sure something new would jump to the 1 -spot in no time.

When green is all there is to be, it could make you wonder why. But why wonder? I'm green, and it'll do fine: it's beautiful, and I think it's what I want to be.

My birthday is Monday (the 21st)! When's yours?

I'm hoping to get The Pillars of the Earth and maybe Odin's Ravens.

ALL games on my list are priorities! So to have all at once would be the ultimate closure.

Gotta go - it's my move in Elfenland!

I think that some of your '2s' would be promoted to '1s'. The thing is, the structure of your wish list is greatly affected by the structure of your collection. You know how orbitals rearrange in energy when you promote an electron in a frontier orbital? That's what happens when a game 'jumps' from your wishlist to your collection. The wishlist has to rearrange itself to minimize the overall energy. If you get a heavy multiplayer negotiation game, it might cause a light two-player card game in your wishlist to suddenly rise in priority, because every new addition to your collection emphasizes a way in which your collection is incomplete. In order to restore balance, you will have to buy even more games.

This is why on the whole, collections only increase in size...

P. S. Happy Birthday!

Mine happens to be Monday, the 21st as well!

Thanks all for the birthday wishes, and thanks for your input on my question!

And I nearly forgot - happy birthday to LennyS!

I have only one "Must Have" on my list, and it seems to be quite difficult to find and, I suppose, out of print. That game is Dibs, a party game. And if anyone happens to have a copy in superb shape, I'm open for suggestions. In addition, I have a huge number of Like to Haves and one or two Love to Haves.

Happy birthday and I'm sure you'll get many things you really want.
