Extra Life Charity Board Gaming Event

Date: Saturday 11/5/16
Time: 11am – midnight
Cost: $15/person, $10/ages 10 and under
Included w/ticket price: drinks, snacks & 10 raffle tickets (additional tickets can be purchased at $1.00 each)
Details: 13 hours of board gaming to benefit the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).

How you can help:
- Come out for the event and game to your hearts content
- Donate directly on our Extra Life Page if you can’t make it to the event
- Join our team, The Games Keepers, at our Extra Life Team Page and solicit your own donations
- Cash donations can be dropped off at the store in our collection jar up through the event
- support our sponsors to thank them for helping out

Although many aspects of the event are still being planned and worked out (probably right up until the day of the event), here are our confirmed sponsors so far:

Dr. Finn’s Games: Steve Finn will be joining us for the event to demo his games between noon – 8pm, including a prototype of his newest game, C.O.G., which just hit Kickstarter this past week (check it out HERE). Dr. Finn’s Games tend toward the family/light strategy genres and include popular titles such as Biblios, Foragers, Institute for the Magical Arts and many more!

GMT Games: They’ll be sending us some products for the raffles. Best known for their historical games such as their COIN series, Twilight Struggle, Labyrinth and many more, they also produce other popular strategy games like Battle Line, Thunder Alley and their newest racing game Grand Prix.

New Bedford: Local designer, Nat Levan, has been gracious enough to provide us with copies of his newest game, New Bedford for the event. We also have a demo copy available in our demo library so you can take it for a test sail.

Petco: The great people at the Exton Petco have donated 2 gift baskets (one cat-themed, the other dog-themed) filled with toys, products and a gift card. Petco provides tons of pet products and services and there are several located throughout the area.

Escape West Chester: West Chester has it’s very own escape room! Take logical gaming to the extreme in this life-sized puzzle where you get locked in a room and have 1 hour to follow the clues to get out. Escape West Chester has offered us a 4-person party pack (a $104 value!)

Mas Mexicali Cantina: So their website is under construction but you can still find their address and contact info to use the gift card they donated under their ‘contact us’ tab. Good, fun Mexican restaurant!

Yori’s Bakery: This has long been one of the finest bakeries to grace West Chester. Cakes, pies, cookies, breads, pretzels, canolis, donuts – you name it. I highly recommend their linzer tarts and almond horseshoes if you win their gift card!

North Star Orchard: Northstar Orchard will be donating a couple fruit baskets filled with their delicious heirloom seasonal fruits. Their farm is located in Cochranville, PA but they attend numerous markets throughout southeastern PA including the West Chester Growers Market every Saturday. They offer weekly CSA fruit and vegetable shares every year as well as partnering with a number of local farmers/growers to provide locally produced eggs, cheeses, meats, pies and more. They grow dozens of varieties of plums, peaches, apples, pears – and my absolute favorite Asian pairs (these are NOTHING like the supermarket Asian pairs).

Wings to Go/Las Vegas Pizza: Once again this year we’ve lined up discounts for all participants at Wings to Go and Las Vegas Pizza for your meals during the event. We’ll have coupons available upon request. If you can’t stay for the event, stop in to make a donation during the event and pick up a coupon to use that day. Apparently if you go to Las Vegas Pizza’s coupon section on their website, you can get 10% off every day except Fridays for showing them the Games Keep coupon on your phone.

Buddy’s Burgers, Breast & Fries: Choose from one of their 4 locations across southeastern PA to use this gift card. Arguably one of the best burger joints around the area.

Renegade Game Studios: Publisher of popular titles like World’s Fair 1893, Lanterns, Lotus, Covert, clank and upcoming Blood of an Englishman. We’ll be receiving a pile of promo tiles for Lanterns to give out to the first 80 participants to arrive for the event! A big thanks to the folks at Renegade!

Stronghold Games: Stronghold Games has published tons of popular titles over the last couple years like Dark Moon, Porta Niagra, 504, Diamonds, The Village, Dragons & Flagons and Pursuit of Happiness. Rather than donate products for the event, Stronghold has sponsored us by donating directly to Extra life through our team page. Thanks Stephen!

The Games Keep: Yes, we’ll be supplying some more raffle prizes in addition to the snacks & drinks. You’ll just have to show up for the event to find out what else. We'll likely have some sales and special events lined up as well but again you'll have to show up to see what's going on.

As we get additional sponsors confirmed, I’ll try to post updates to this BGG thread.

I'm confused. Do I pay the $15 for participating by joining the team at the Extra Life page, or is it another $15 to actually come and play that day?

You pay it that day at the door. Alternately, you can make the $15 donation directly through my Extra Life page (without joining the team)and just print out a copy of the donation receipt to bring in that day.

You're welcome to make your own profile and join the team as well and raise additional donations from friends/family through your profile, which will then be credited to the team. Just that their donations don't cover your admission into the event

Sorry - this is the first year I've actually set up the team page and dealt with any of that side of things.

Does joining the team at the platinum ($15) level count or is that just a fee that goes to Extra Life?

Pretty sure the $15 is just a fee to pay for the T-shirts/medals that being a platinum member gets you if you raise the appropriate tier of donations. The $15 isn't added to your donations raised. So if you don't want to raise enough money to earn the extra perks, I wouldn't go platinum.

So I want to wholeheartedly thank all those who participated in our Extra Life event as well as our generous sponsors this year. GMT Games, Stronghold Games, Renegade Game Studios Dr. Finn's Games and Greater Than Games/Dice Hate Me Games continue to be top-notch companies who produce top-notch products, so a huge shout out to all of them! Once again it was a huge success and everyone had a blast.

The event itself raised just over $1,700.00 from entry & ticket sales and another $355.00 raised from team members. And Extra Life isn't done yet!

We have still have a magic event scheduled for the 17th to add to the proceeds and anyone who still wants to make donations or join the team to raise additional funds can continue to do so through the end of the year through one of the links in the first post above.

As a final plug in appreciation of Steve Finn spending the day with us and teaching so many of his games to the masses, if you have even the slightest interest in word games or worker placement games, check out his kickstarter for C.O.G. HERE. The game was a huge hit with nearly everyone who played it - even those folks who weren't big into either word games or worker placements. There are only a couple days remaining for it.

Thanks again to everyone for being a part of this wonderful charity event!

Thanks Karl for putting on a great event! Everyone seemed to be having fun, and it was great to meet Dr. Finn and try out his game.

Winning a free copy of Orleans was nice too!
