Something portraying gladatorial combat. Not too complex, and definitely not too fiddly - preferably something rule elegant. Excellent components and art.

This is what I thought of when I read the title. This was my surprise of gencon back in 2012. It has been Fun every time it has hit the table.

Looks interesting but not really that keen on miniature games. If I did have it I would want the miniatures painted - and I am hopeless at painting and don't have the kit anyway. Pretty expensive too.

Thanks for the reply though. It does look interesting.

I would not have considered this with it being a TV franchise thing. Looks like I should take a second look.

Heroes of the Colosseum is a boardgame adaptation of the miniatures rules Red Sand, Blue Sky: Heroes of the Arena and Charioteer: Racing at the Famous Circus Maximus.

I have some pre-painted gladiator miniatures from em4: Ludus Gladiatorius and Ludus Gladiatorius 2. The Ludus games include a board, dice, and rules, though the rules are pretty basic.

Need to get it from the publisher, so it won't be cheap.

I'm not a fan of the TV series, but I really like the game.

Clash of the Gladiators! It's on the easy side, but fun as hell. Plus it's Kinizia, so EAF.

I was going to recommend this. This is my new favorite gladiator game.

More blood for the blood god!

I just hope they expand it to include champions from the other chaos gods.

I surprised no one has mentioned Gladiator. It's been a while so I am reluctant to attest to it. I have a feeling it might be hard to come by but again, I cannot attest.

I'm always happy to play Gladiator, but I don't think it's for the OP. He'd probably find it fiddly.

Indeed. I've not played it but have seen it played. I would consider it fiddly. I want nice big hexes or squares, a few clear tables, beautifully illustrated cards ..... I need not go on. We all know what I mean.

This game looks beautiful and appears to fill my criteria.
.... I dread to think how much it costs.
