After reading rules has not seemed to be reflected in any section...

What use are they?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

They are to differentiate the dice for colour-blind people. The symbols correspond to the symbols listed on the character sheets, etc. Again, this is where the rulebook is deficient - this should have been noted in it to avoid any confusion about them.

I was hoping that symbols serve for something more meaningful in the gameplay.

Very interesting anyway...specially for colour-blind gamers.

Indeed the rulebook have enough loopholes and ambiguous.

Not just the colorblind: during the KS campaign "some people" (what, me?) complained loudly that it was difficult (sometimes impossible) to differentiate orange from red dice in many contexts, in particular when they appeared on a page without the other color to compare it to. Depending on the lighting conditions (for printouts) or color/brightness settings of a monitor, red and orange may look essentially identical.

Rather than drastically change the colors (e.g. i suggested, at the time, white, grey, and black instead of yellow, orange, red, respectively), they took a design hint from game controllers and added symbols as a disambiguator.

Black-and-white printouts were also a concern: Monolith announced from the beginning that they wanted to foster strong community-driven activity, and presumably some community members would want/need to use black/white printing. Good luck differentiating between orange and red dice on greyscale printouts. The symbols effectively alleviate this problem.

Even sighted people can't distinguish the tiny symbols on the physical dice: they're too small for my eyes to distinguish without a magnifying glass.

COLORBLIND.... NOT BLIND

He meant blind, referring to the teeny tiny symbols on the physical dice.

Sorry I just think this is a really silly question as the blind can't read the character sheets either, or move the gems to their correct locations as the character cards don't have raised lettering or braille. What would be the point of making dice for the blind if the rest of the game isn't?

I don't know why they didn't go with the dagger/sword/axe idea. But I'm glad they did something at least.

yea or instead of yellow/orange/red they could have taken any color combination that is not problematic for color blind people or bw printers.
like the aforementioned white/grey/black, hell even yellow/blue/red would probably have worked better...
