Not too sure about how guards are moved.

Do guards have to be moved out of the way before a player can move past them? So each guard has to be moved before it can be passed. (And players can't move their piece past a guard)

If a guard is moved towards the start tile does it have to stop on a space with a playing piece?

That's weird. This bit used to mention Shire Games, and tell you all how wonderful we are. But it seems to have got deleted. Let's see what happens this time ....

Guards are there to stop you taking a tile when you leave it.

(This can be both good or bad, depending on the tile).

Guards can only be moved towards the finish line.

When you roll the die, you can either:

1. Move one of your own pieces towards the finish line. If that piece is the last to leave a tile, you take it.

2. Move a guard towards the finish line. A guard can only be moved if there is at least one player pawn (belonging to any player) on the tile as well. You cannot move a lone guard or a guard that is on a tile with other guards.

In either case, the pawn or the guard move the full amount of the die roll (unless they reach the finish, in which case they are out of the game)

Hope that helps.

The pieces do not block each other.

On their turn, a player must move one of their own pieces or a guard. They can move any of their own pieces at any time, but a guard can only be moved if it is sharing a space with at least one player piece That player piece can belong to any player.

The end result is that you can use the guards to keep from getting stuck with crappy tiles, or you can use them to delay your opponents from getting the good ones.

Hope that helps.

Yes, guards can leave the game by crossing the finish line.
