I do not have detail instructions on how this was done. But I used the following site as the bases of the project. Quite cheap due to the use of dimensional lumber versus furniture grade. http://www.hgtv.com/design/rooms/living-and-dining-rooms/diy... I used a 1/2" sheet of plywood for the game top with an underlay of felt with a Blue suede cloth on top. We could have gone with better materials for the playing surface but we keep this project on a budget.
The top was left removable with strips of wood to hold the boards together and in an order to keep the table from shifting when placed.

Nothing wrong with cheap and simple. That's pretty similar to how I built the stand for my bearded dragon tank.
