It's about The Game of Life and Milton Bradley in about equal measure. It's an excellent piece of historical journalism, though I suspect that those more interested in board games than American social and intellectual history will find less in it to like than I did.

This is the second article by Jill Lepore that the New Yorker has run in the last four weeks. (Which I wouldn't have noticed if the last one, about Jamestown, hadn't been so horrifying and funny, especially the phrase "Again with the wife-eating man!") She seems to be shooting at being the Robert Sapolsky of American historiography. It could use one, I think, so good for her.
