DCGP is one of my most favourite games. However, some people in my gaming group don't like the switch card effect as written in the rulebook.

Here is the way we sometimes play:

A switch card may be played to move either (not both) car pictured on the card the number of spaces equal to his current position on the track (e.g. lead car moves 1 space, 2nd moves 2 spaces, etc.). When resolving position for car movement, simply count the cars that are ahead of the selected car and add “+1” – do not count the cars that have finished the race or are even with the selected car. A car is allowed to move even if full movement is not possible. It is permissible to pick a car that has completed the race or that cannot be moved; in this case, the card can be played but it does nothing at all.
