Thank You all.
It was so awesome being Geek of the Week.
I wish I had more time to add stuff.
The 8 poll lying challenge was really fun.
I fooled many of you!

I nominate my Canadian brother Daryl Andrews!

Daryl and I were roommates and mules together at Essen last year. We are also co designing a bunch of games. You will see many games from us in the next few years. He is a very sweet and helpful guy and I'm honored to know him!

You can see him co hosting the Meeple Syrup Show on Youtube which is my favorite program out there. I have watched every single episode and even been on a few. It is a show for board game designers and publishers. It covers everything about the hobby. Please check it out!

Quote:
Daryl Andrews has always been a big fan of board games. Daryl started to really get in the game hobby in 2011. First he got very involved organizing local board game events. That grew into bigger things like charity board game events, a local con (Board Game Bash), and the Great Canadian Board Game Blitz (12+ annual events across Canada).

It took a few years before Daryl joined the Game Artisans of Canada (a guild of Canadian game designers), and he has been designing board games ever since. With four published games so far (The Walled City, Caffeine Rush, Fantasy Fantasy Baseball, Back to the Future: Outatime), but over 30 more boardgames and/or expansions already signed (Sagrada just funded on Kickstarter).

Daryl usually designs his games with a co-designer. So far he has worked with 10+ designers and 10+ publishers. Recently, Daryl was hired as a board game consultant for IDW games, but he still spends the majority of his time as a freelance game designer. Every Tuesday at Noon (EST), he co-hosts the Meeple Syrup Show, a video podcast featuring board game industry guests.

Have a great week!

My usual question: Have you a favorite wizard? If so, who? If not, why? And which game (if any) is he/she from?

1. You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

Answer(1): Blue Jay blue - Im a big baseball fan and my fav team is the Toronto Blue Jays. When I was 10 years old, I played travel baseball and it was the perfect time for a fan of the game to see their team win their first ever World Series victory. I was hooked ever since.

2. What’s your favorite ’80s song?

Answer(2): Tough to narrow this down to just one but I would easily pick The Joshua Tree album by U2. I guess the song "I Still Haven't Found What Im Looking For" would be my favourite. U2 is my favourite band of all time. I even had "Beautiful Day" as my wedding recessional song.

3. What animal would you be and why?

Answer(3): Easy answer for me. A monkey, specifically a Barbary Macaque. I had a childhood Curious George stuffed animal my entire childhood, and that has defined what I would answer to this question my whole life.

4. What were you like in high school?

Answer(4): I went to 2 high schools an I would say they were very different experiences. For my first 2 grades I was a successful "Jock" and played on many sports teams. I also played the viola in the orchestra so I knew the musical folk. In grade 11 I switched schools due to moving from London to St. Thomas (both cities in the province of Ontario in Canada). From grades 11-13 I became less interested in sports and being popular. I put my energies into social justice and my friends. I had a really strong circle of friends I shared some amazing experiences with. I traveled to Guatemala twice on mission trips. I helped a lot at my church.

5. What’s the last movie you watched in the theater and didn't fall asleep during?

Answer(5): I just watched INFERNO with Tanya (my wife). It was an average movie but it was exciting to watch for us because we saw it being filmed in Florence. The majority of the film is in Florence so it was triggering some amazing memories.

6. What is the funniest thing that has happened to you recently?

Answer(6):

7. What are you known for?

Answer(7): Hmm. Tough question - maybe others will answer this differently. I would suggest most people would say Im known for being straight with people and caring. I hope. Most people know I will tell them what I think straight up. Sometimes that can get me in trouble (being blunt), but most people don't worry about me being dishonest. I think most people know I care about them and I try to spend my life showing people they matter.

8. What do you do in your free time besides design games?

Answer(8): I really enjoy watching sports. Watching LIVE is ideal, but today with HD it is amazing to watch on TV too. I was just watching Masters Curling yesterday. I find it inspiring and interesting to watch most sports at their best. That is why Im such a fan of watching olympics and world championships of any sport. Beyond sports, Im also a movie aholic. As a former employee of Blockbuster, I am use to consuming way too many movies. I enjoy listening to music and dabble in playing acoustic guitar. Additionally, I am a big reader of theology books. Also, I enjoy doing volunteer work, especially in areas of social justice.

9. How would you rate your memory?

Answer(9): I would say a "7". I believe I have a better memory than my wife, but still not the best memory. So don't count on our household to remember stuff well. The calendar feature on my iPhone has saved me many of times.

10. How many pennies would fit into your room?

Answer(10): into my room? which room we talking here. Im gonna go with a room in my house that is about 9" x 9" x 5" and guess I could fit about 700 million pennies in that room.

11. Estimate how many games you will design?

Answer(11): Yikes. I have 4 games currently published and available in the market. However, I have another 25+ games/expansions already designed and signed. I would like to think I could design/publish atleast 1 game a year for the rest of my life. Assuming I make it to 74 years old, that gives me another 40 years. So I will guess I would make atleast 70 games in my lifetime (pending a surprise early death).

12. How many pizzas have you eaten?

Answer(12): This is an easy answer if it was "really good pizzas". I would argue I have only had about 10 great pizzas in my life. The majority in Italy, and New York City (Artichoke Pizza). However, if your talking all pizza then the number is very high, thinking like 800 pizzas.

13. What is the best milkshake flavor?

Answer(13): Im partial to a great mint/chocolate flavour milkshake. But its got to be done right.

14. How many consecutive hours have you ever stayed awake?

Answer(14): Bad memories. Im thinking 80 hours. It was horrible. I got a horrible eye infection and my eyes couldn't stay closed and I was in a constant state of pain. My eyes were so sensitive to light I lived in my basement and listened to a TV with a thick blanket over the screen. Finally an eye specialist got me on the right medicine.

15. What country do you want to go to next?

Answer(15): Well Im excited to go to USA for BGGcon soon. Also, Im scheduled to visit my mom who now lives in the Dominican Republic. Im excited about that too. However, I think you are asking what country do I want to visit in which I have never. I think my number #1 place is Greece. I still have many places in the world I want to visit.

16. What are 3 weird themes for a new game idea?

Answer(16): If I told you I would have to kill you. Just kidding. (1) I have been wanting to make a game of players making songs - point tokens are musical notes you assemble into melodies and the map to get notes are the insides of musical instruments (players are very tiny). (2) Another weird idea I want to explore is a BBQ game about smoking meats - co-design with David Tome (3) A third weird idea I want to make into a game is Westworld (HBO series)

17. How much do you love baseball?

Answer(17): Its a bad time to ask. Baseball is basically dead to me. Im still watching the World Series and cheering on the cubs; however, once the Blue Jays were eliminated from the playoffs I begin the briefing process. After a week or two from the World Series, I will begin the offseason dreaming of what might happen (trades, signings, etc) for 2017, but for now I grieve the 2016 baseball season.

18. What 18 card game are you designing next?

Answer(18): I am trying to think of a design for Odd Hackwelder's competition. I have a month to design/develop the game. The idea hasn't come to me yet, but Im hopeful I will have a moment of inspiration soon.

I am partial to Gandalf the Grey. It is even the nickname to my car. J.R.R. Tolkien is one of my favourite writers. A personal fav quote from him is ‘Not all those who wander are lost.’ from the poem “All That is Gold Does Not Glitter”. And then there is the classic quote from Gandalf the Grey ‘All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.’ I find that an inspiring and humbling quote to live by.

And you can find Gandalf in my games - Im partial to "Lord of the Rings: The Confrontation" - great 2 player game similar to Stratego

Non-traditional pancake....

I personally really enjoy apple butter + cinnamon & sugar mixed as an alternative to amazing meeple syrup.

Sen or Jay - its a trap! LOL.
I will say Sen took me under his wing and got me into designing games and Jay took me under his wing and got me into pitching games. I am also currently designing a game with Jay.
