Stauffer Dynasty didn't really have WP (action Drafting).

Empires: Age of Discovery is exactly what you are looking for.

Not as much worker placement, but Triassic Terror is a good Area Control as well.

This is worker placement for sure, but there is no area control aspect.

Of the games I own or have played Belfort is the game that comes to mind when you say worker placement and area control.

Of those I've been interested in, Alien Frontiers comes to mind.

Carson City does not have the area control feel in my opinion. Yes, you can control areas in the city, but you can win the game while not buying any new properties (only using the starting 2 areas).

It's been a while since I've played it, but I don't recall any worker placement in Discworld. Area control, sure, but no worker placement.

The two that come to mind for me (and are mentioned by others) would be:

Age of Empires III: The Age of Discovery and Dominant Species. Both are driven by worker-placement, and have definite area-control scoring. Of the two, I'd say that AoEIII:tAoD is the lighter and easier. Also, while there is definite area control aspect to the scoring, there's also several other scoring mechanisms going on that can balance things out. DS is the far more nasty, vicious, and cut-throat of the pair, with a couple different area-control mechanisms running in parallel. It also has both positive actions, and disaster-mitigation effects going on, as well as a far stronger take-that aspect than does AoEIII:tAoD.

....right. My brain thought "a limited number of minions available to be put on the board: worker placement!" Yeah, not so much.

If you like the concept of area control and want to add the decisions of placing a finite pool of people on them to deny them to your opponent, would you be interested in a wargame?

I'm not a big fan of wargames...

Dominant Species is my limit. It's not a wargame but feels like it.

but if it is a wargame with some economic, farming and area control / area influence, I'm opne to suggestions.
