So my team is Erebor and my brother coaches Hobbiton (yes we picked Lotr names don't judge). So we both get off to a bad start in weeks one through four, with Erebor dropping every game and Hobbiton winning just one (against Erebor).
Not looking good. Fortunately, week 5 sees Erebor pull out a stunning home victory against Istanbul. But that is the only player controlled win in weeks 5-7. Paris continues to dominate, while Athens catches fire, and Marseile tries to salvage their season after a 1-0-3 start. Kiev has been interesting, with more draws than wins or losses combined, giving them a 2-4-1 record, the tied for fewest losses of any team.
Now here's where it gets interesting. Hobbiton catches fire, winning two and drawing another in the next four weeks of the year. Paris stumbles, and does not win once in weeks 8-11. Athens picks up nine points to sieze first place from Paris and the steady Bordeaux, who go 1-2-1 in this stretch. Kiev continues their not losing (but not winning) ways, going 2-2-0 in the stretch, and Istanbul continues to perform, leaving an interesting race with 3 weeks left.
The biggest news though was Erebor's Week 10 signing of Manuel, a 25 year old goal keeper with a 7.5 rating, to replace the struggling, injured veteran Dillinger and his inept backup. He's no long term solution, but maybe he can keep them out of the embarrassment zone (the fourth division relegation zone), and potentially even lead them to promotion next year.
Naturally, what has been happening all season to defensive players for both Hobbiton and Erebor, Manuel is down to double minus form by Week 12. Raise your hand if you are shocked that a defensive player had bad form in Footy Manager. **Crickets**. Seriously, add another way to gain form to offset them losing form every game when you give up 4+ goals. Athens finishes strong, and clinches Promotion by the end of Week 12, and the #1 spot by Week 13. But the race for number two is thrilling. With 1 week left, the #2 standing are as follows:
Tiebreaker: Bordeaux beats Istanbul who beats Kiev (yeah, drawing games doesn't help the goal differential Kiev (ended up with 7 draws on the season, half of their games.))
Paris has 18, and is eliminated from contention. Yes, they only scored two points in Weeks 8-13 after 16 points weeks 1-7. That's Footy for ya.
So Bordeaux draws against Athens 2-2 in Week 14, leaving the door wide open. A win for Istnabul clinches. A win for Kiev and draw or loss clinches for them. If both teams lose or draw Bordeaux wins. Kiev has a road game against Erebor and Istanbul has a road game against Marseile. Kiev loses to Erebor 3-1, knocking them out of the running. And Istanbul gets flattened by Marseile, making Bordeaux promoted!
Athens 30 (promoted)
Bordeaux 23 (promoted)
Hobbiton 13 (embarrassed)
Erebor 8 (embarrassed)
Ka Mate Ka Mate
Ka Ora Ka Ora
I think the Hobbiton team might have a problem when the opponents take to crossing the ball in to the box a lot....
Re: Season 1- Hobbiton and Erebor join league
So that explains Erebor and Hobbiton's woes!
13 points in a first season is far from terrible. I've often finished much worse off!
