ACTASF Book 2 is well under way (Probably 75% of it is written), but we are falling behind in the play test department.

The current play testers are doing a great job, but there are a lot of new rules / units to try out.
Tholians, Tholian Webs, Web casters, Web fists, and Tholian only special actions.
Seltorians, Particle cannons, Web Breakers, shield crackers...
An expanded Orion Pirate fleet list with rules for optional weapon mounts and Gatling Phasers
Scouts for everyone...
Police Ships for everyone
Battleships for everyone
Commando ships for everyone...
Boarding party combat and capturing ships...
Over a dozen new scenarios and tactical challenges...

And more to come.

If you have a group of ACTASF players and would be interested in play testing the new stuff... let me know.

I would offer myself but I'm not qualified. lol but what did you mean by book 2? Is there going to be a 3rd edition of the call to arms deluxe book?

I was sad that the 2nd printing deluxe edition was not the fancy hardcover one like the 1st printing.

No... Book 2 will expand the empire.
Complete fleets for Orion Pirates and Tholians...
More ships for the Feds, Klingons, Romulans, Gorn, and Kzinti...
We'll be adding a new empire: The Seltorian Tribunal

Every empire gets:
Scouts and scout rules...
Commando ships and boarding party rules...
Battleships and Police Cutters for everybody...

New weapons, new ship systems, new traits, new Special Actions...
More Scenarios...
A mini-campaign for the Orion Pirates

And then we'll follow up with Books 3, 4, and 5 in the next year or two.

I'd much rather have a rule book that works and an expanding game system with cardstock covers as opposed to a glitzy hardback full of typos, broken rules, and no hope for future expansions.

The Mongoose book was nicely presented, I'll give you that.
But the Amarillo Design Bureau version is much more playable and will continue to be expanded.
We still need to add Hydrans, Lyrans, LDR, WYN, ISC, Andromedans, Vudar, Jindarians...

Not to mention the simulator races, the Megallanic Cloud empires, the Omega Quadrant empires, the Triangular empires, the Pinwheel Galaxy empires...

Then there's whole classes of ships missing...
Carriers
Interceptors
Gunboats
Escorts
X-ships
Heavy War Destroyers
Heavy Command Cruisers
War Cruiser Leaders
Destroyer Leaders
and so on...

And Early Years ships...
Sublight Ships...
Middle Years Ships...

And don't forget the Xorkellians...

The Star Fleet Universe has a vast background to build ACTASF on...
Dozens and Dozens of empires...
Thousands upon thousands of ships...

I'm a big fan of hardbound books. I was pretty glad the current crop was not hardbound, though. It went through several iterations of change. Maybe in a few years when there has been more time to sort out things it might be good to have a hardbound that is the end version of the core rules.

Any chance of multiple shield facings at some point? That adds a very important maneuvering element.

Some have house-ruled it in.
But from an official stand-point... No.

One of the core mechanics of the ACTA game engine itself is a single unified shield. And it's also a part of the core rulebook and the version 1.2 re-development.

Implementing multi-facet shields at this point would require a release of a whole new edition of the rules, ship rosters, ship cards... and play testing to insure balance. I just don't see that happening... not with at least 4 more books on the way over the next couple of years.
